The BLACKHAWK TecGrip FormLok IWB Holster solves a real problem that a lot of people face: finding a retention holster that actually fits their gun. This is a nylon holster you can custom-mold at home to your exact firearm, kind of like forming a football mouthguard. Heat the holster in water, shape it around your gun, let it cool, and you've got a custom fit that won't require replacing when you change pistols.
The key is the Memory-Lok thermoformable plastic core sandwiched between other layers. When you heat it up and mold it around your specific gun, it creates real passive retention. That means friction keeps the gun in place without spring-loaded retention mechanisms. The interior uses a friction-resistant 600 denier polyester that lets you draw smoothly without snagging on your gun's finish, while the exterior has a tacky material that grips your body and clothing so the holster stays put all day without a belt clip.
The holster is wrapped in high-density closed-cell foam for padding and all-day comfort. It's ambidextrous so you can wear it anywhere on the waistband. There's a low-profile shirt guard to keep fabric out of the way and a low-cut sight channel that works with mounted red dot optics. Size 07 fits sub-compact pistols like the Glock 48, Smith and Wesson Shield EZ 9/380, Sig P365XL, Colt Commander 4 inch 1911, and Springfield Hellcat RDP.
The kit comes with a heavy-mil prep bag for heating, a T-handle molding tool to shape the holster correctly, and detailed instructions. If you pick up a different gun later, you can reheat and remold the holster to fit it. Based on real-world testing, the comfort and retention hold up well through daily carry, even with multiple reshape cycles.
The process is straightforward. Bring a pot of water to between 155 and 175 degrees Fahrenheit, place the holster in the included prep bag and submerge it in the hot water for the time specified in the instructions. While it's heating, prepare your gun by clearing it completely and removing the magazine. Once the holster is heated and pliable, remove it from the bag and mold it around your gun using the T-handle tool to shape the Memory-Lok core. Let it cool completely and you'll have a custom fit. If you need to remold it later for a different gun, just repeat the process.
