Black Rain Ordnance went further with the Spec+ Patriot, wrapping the whole rifle in an Old Glory "We the People" finish that features the stars and stripes along with script pulled straight from the Constitution's preamble. It makes a statement on the rack, but underneath the artwork sits a legitimately well-built 5.56 carbine from a company that has been machining ARs in Missouri for years.
The foundation is Black Rain's Spec15 forged aluminum receiver set, matched to a 16 inch 4150V chromoly barrel with a threaded muzzle wearing an A2 flash hider. The bolt carrier group gets a salt bath nitride coating, which is a nice touch at this level since it resists carbon buildup and wipes clean faster than a standard phosphate carrier. A direct impingement gas system runs through a .750 low profile non-adjustable gas block, so the rifle cycles the way an AR should with everything from cheap steel-case plinking ammo to quality brass loads. The trigger is a standard mil-spec GI unit, familiar and predictable, and easy to swap down the road if you want something lighter.
The 15 inch slim M-LOK handguard gives you a long, comfortable grip surface and plenty of real estate for lights, hand stops, or a bipod, and it keeps the free-floated look and feel that modern AR fans expect. Magpul MOE furniture handles the grip and adjustable stock, which is a genuine upgrade over the bare-bones GI furniture a lot of rifles ship with in this range. The flat-top receiver comes optic ready, so plan on adding a red dot or LPVO before your first range trip.
