The Spec 15 forged aluminum receiver set is deep laser engraved with the We The People motif, then coated in a red Battleworn Cerakote that gives the rifle a broken-in, seen-some-things character right out of the box. The distressed finish is more than a look, too. Cerakote holds up well against scratches and corrosion, and the battleworn style does a nice job hiding the little dings that pile up over years of range trips.
The bones here are solid. A 16 inch 4150V chromoly barrel runs a direct impingement gas system with a low-profile .750 gas block, capped off with a classic castle flash suppressor on the muzzle. The bolt carrier group gets a salt bath nitride treatment for slick cycling and easy cleanup, and the 15 inch slim M-LOK free-float handguard leaves you plenty of real estate for lights, grips, and sling mounts without adding bulk. Magpul MOE furniture rounds out the package, with a comfortable pistol grip and an adjustable carbine stock that fits a wide range of builds and body types.
At roughly 7.5 pounds and 34 inches overall, the We The People handles like a standard carbine, which means it works just as well for weekend plinking and defensive setups as it does hanging on the wall between range days. The mil-spec trigger keeps things familiar for anyone who has spent time behind an AR platform.
Black Rain builds these rifles in Missouri and makes most of the parts in-house rather than assembling a parts-bin gun, and it shows in the fit and finish. The Spec+ line covers a huge range of configurations and finishes, but the red We The People version is easily one of the most striking of the bunch. It arrives with one 30-round magazine, so all you need is ammo and a free afternoon.
It holds up well. The red Battleworn color is Cerakote, a ceramic-based coating known for strong scratch and corrosion resistance. The distressed battleworn effect also works in your favor over time, since minor handling marks blend right into the intentionally aged look instead of standing out.
Yes. The Black Rain We The People is chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO, which safely handles both 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington ammunition. That gives you flexibility to run cheaper .223 for range days and 5.56 loads when you want a little more punch.
No, it ships without sights, which is typical for rifles in this class. The flat-top upper receiver and 15 inch M-LOK handguard give you plenty of room to mount a red dot, scope, or backup iron sights however you like. Most owners set it up with a red dot or low-power variable optic.
The looks get the attention, but the build backs it up. Black Rain Ordnance manufactures most of its components in-house at its Missouri facility, including the forged Spec 15 receiver set and nitride-coated bolt carrier group. The 4150V chromoly barrel and free-float handguard are the same style of components you would expect on a serious working carbine.
