Magnum Research took the same ground-up magnum philosophy behind the Desert Eagle and applied it to a single-action revolver, and the result is the BFR, short for Big Frame Revolver. This version chambers the classic .44 Magnum in a six-round cylinder, and because the whole gun was engineered around far bigger cartridges like the .454 Casull and .500 JRH, the .44 Mag feels right at home in it. There is a lot of confidence that comes from running a proven hunting cartridge through a frame with that much extra muscle built in.
The 7.5 inch cut-rifled barrel is where this revolver earns its keep. It delivers excellent accuracy with both lead and jacketed bullets, so cast handloads and premium factory hunting ammo both shoot the way they should. Sighting comes from a black fixed front paired with an adjustable rear, easy to dial for different loads, and the frame supports scope mounting if you want glass for extended-range work on deer or hogs. The factory single-action trigger breaks at a clean 4 to 5 pounds, which is a big part of why these guns have a reputation for shooting tighter than their size suggests.
Every BFR is made entirely in the United States from stainless steel with a brushed finish, so weather, sweat, and holster wear are not going to bother it. The black rubber grips take real sting out of full-power magnum loads, and the sheer heft of the big frame soaks up recoil in a way lighter .44s simply cannot. At 13.75 inches overall it balances nicely in the hand or a chest rig, and it will happily digest .44 Special for relaxed range sessions.

Yes. Like any revolver chambered in .44 Magnum, the BFR will safely fire .44 Special, which is a great way to get cheaper, softer-shooting practice in. Just give the chambers a good cleaning afterward, since the shorter Special cases can leave a carbon ring that makes chambering magnums sticky.
It is one of the better factory options out there for it. The 7.5 inch cut-rifled barrel wrings full velocity out of .44 Mag hunting loads and shoots well with both lead and jacketed bullets, and the adjustable rear sight lets you zero for your specific load. The frame also supports scope mounting if you want an optic for longer shots on deer or hogs.
Milder than you might expect. The BFR frame was designed around much bigger cartridges like the .454 Casull and .500 JRH, so its extra weight does a lot of work taming .44 Mag recoil. Combine that with the rubber grips and most folks find full-power loads very manageable, especially compared to lighter .44s.
