There's a reason the PX4 Storm has stuck around while so many polymer pistols have come and gone. Beretta built this one around a rotating barrel lockup instead of the usual tilting barrel, and the difference shows up the first time you press the trigger. The barrel turns to unlock rather than tipping up, which sends recoil energy in a rotational path and takes real bite out of muzzle flip. Plenty of folks who shoot this pistol back to back against other full-size 9mms come away surprised at how soft it runs. That makes fast follow-up shots easier and long range sessions a lot more pleasant.
This is a traditional DA/SA pistol with an ambidextrous safety and decocker, a commander-style hammer, and an automatic firing pin block. You get a long deliberate first pull followed by a crisp single-action press for everything after, the same setup trusted by police and military units around the world. The 4-inch chrome-lined barrel resists corrosion and features a recessed target crown to protect the rifling. Up top, a serrated Bruniton-finished steel slide carries a 3-dot sight system with a generous sight radius, and the frame wears an integral Picatinny rail so you can hang a light or laser without any adapters.
The fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame keeps weight down to about 27.7 ounces, and Beretta includes three interchangeable backstraps so you can dial the grip to small, medium, or large hands. The magazine release is reversible too, which makes this one of the friendlier full-size pistols out there for left-handed users. Slick, snag-free lines make holstering smooth and clean.

Instead of a conventional tilting barrel, the PX4's barrel rotates to unlock during cycling. That redirects some of the recoil energy rotationally rather than straight back into your hand, so felt recoil and muzzle flip are noticeably milder than most full-size 9mms. Yes. This model ships with 10-round magazines, but it accepts standard full-size PX4 Storm 9mm magazines in higher capacities. Just make sure you buy full-size PX4 mags, since the shorter PX4 Compact magazines will not fit this frame.
It is one of the better options out there for lefties. The safety/decocker lever is fully ambidextrous, and the magazine release can be swapped to the right side in just a few minutes. Combined with the three included backstrap sizes, it adapts well to almost any shooter.
The first shot can be fired double action with a longer, heavier pull that cocks and releases the hammer, then the slide cocks the hammer for lighter single-action shots after that. The ambidextrous lever lets you safely decock the hammer without touching the trigger. It is the same proven system used on Beretta's legendary 92 series.
