Left-handed waterfowlers usually end up adapting to right-handed guns and just living with it. This version of the A400 Xtreme Plus fixes that. It is a dedicated left-hand build, so the ejection port, charging handle, and controls all sit where they should for a lefty, and the reversible crossbolt safety rounds it out. Beretta wrapped the whole thing in Mossy Oak Original Bottomland, the old-school pattern that duck hunters have trusted in timber and marsh grass for decades.
The 12 gauge 3.5 inch chamber lets you run everything from light target loads up to heavy magnum steel, and the recoil management is where this gun earns its reputation. The Kick-Off Mega hydraulic system in the stock works alongside a MicroCore recoil pad and a soft comb to soak up the punch before it reaches your shoulder and cheek. Pair that with the 28 inch Steelium Plus barrel, which uses an extended forcing cone to smooth out the shot charge, and you get tighter, more consistent patterns with noticeably less kick. Beretta's Blink gas system cycles fast and stays reliable even when you feed it a mixed bag of shells.
Cold hands and gloves are part of duck hunting, so Beretta fitted this gun with an oversized charging handle, enlarged bolt release, and a widened loading port straight from the factory. The stepped rib carries a mid-bead and a fiber optic front bead for a clean sight picture in dim, early-morning light.
Five Optima-Choke HP tubes ship in the box, covering Cylinder through Full, so you can dial in patterns for decoying birds or long passing shots without buying anything extra. At around 7.8 pounds it carries fine on long walks to the blind, and there is enough weight to keep your swing steady when the birds commit.
It is a true left-hand model. The action ejects to the left side and the controls are set up for left-handed operation from the factory, so spent hulls fly away from your face instead of across it. The crossbolt safety is also reversible if you want to fine-tune the setup.
Beretta's Blink gas operating system is known for cycling a wide range of loads reliably, from lighter field shells up to 3.5 inch magnums. It is one of the fastest cycling gas guns on the market. As with any gas gun, keep it reasonably clean and it will run all season.
Quite a bit. The hydraulic dampeners in the stock work with the MicroCore recoil pad, soft comb, and the gas action to spread the recoil impulse out, so heavy magnum steel loads feel closer to standard 3 inch shells. It is a big part of why the A400 Xtreme Plus has a reputation as one of the softest shooting waterfowl guns you can buy.
It ships with five Optima-Choke HP tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder. That covers most hunting situations out of the box. The Optima HP pattern is widely supported, so aftermarket waterfowl and turkey tubes are easy to find if you want to specialize.
