Beretta built this gun to cycle everything from light 2.75-inch field loads to punishing 3.5-inch magnums without touching a single adjustment, and the Blink gas system keeps it running fast with a compensating exhaust valve and self-cleaning piston that shrugs off fouling. When birds are cupped up and dropping in, follow-up shots come quick and the action keeps up.
The 26-inch Steelium Plus barrel uses lengthened forcing cones to smooth out shot deformation, which translates to tighter, more uniform patterns downrange and a noticeable drop in felt recoil. Up top you get a 7×7 stepped vent rib borrowed from Beretta's competition guns, with an integral steel mid-bead and fiber optic front bead that stays visible in gray, low-light mornings. Five extended Optima-Choke HP tubes come in the box, so you are covered from close decoying birds to long passing shots.
The black synthetic stock houses Beretta's Kick-Off hydraulic recoil system along with a soft MicroCore butt pad and soft comb, and together they take real sting out of heavy loads. That matters on high-volume days when you are burning through a case of magnum steel. The controls got the cold-weather treatment too: an enlarged loading port, extended charging handle, and oversized bolt release all work fine with gloved, numb fingers.
At 7.4 pounds with a 51-inch overall length, the 26-inch version swings quick and carries easy through flooded timber or muddy field edges. The dark gray receiver and protected metalwork stand up to water, mud, and salt spray better than most guns in the safe. This is the shotgun guys buy once and hunt with for decades, and the used market backs that up. If waterfowl is your thing, this one is tough to beat.
Yes, and that is one of its biggest strengths. The 3.5-inch chamber and Blink gas system handle 2.75-inch, 3-inch, and 3.5-inch shells interchangeably with no adjustments needed. The compensating exhaust valve automatically regulates gas pressure, so you can mix light field loads and heavy magnums in the same outing.
It makes a real difference. The Kick-Off hydraulic dampeners in the stock work together with the MicroCore butt pad and soft comb to soak up a big chunk of felt recoil, and the gas action absorbs even more. Even 3.5-inch magnum steel loads feel manageable, which is why so many high-volume waterfowlers stick with this gun.
This model ships with five extended Optima-Choke HP tubes: Full, Improved Modified, Modified, Improved Cylinder, and Cylinder. The extended black tubes can be swapped by hand and the constrictions cover everything from close decoying birds to long pass shooting. They pattern well with steel and other nontoxic loads.
The 26-inch barrel is a favorite for timber and blind hunting where a quicker-swinging gun is an advantage. Since the Steelium Plus barrel with its lengthened forcing cones does the heavy lifting on patterns, you give up very little to the 28-inch version. At 7.4 pounds overall, it carries nicely and points fast on flushing or dropping birds.
