Plenty of clay guns claim to do it all, but the A400 Xcel Multitarget was built from the ground up for exactly that. The B-Fast system is the heart of this gun. The comb adjusts for drop and cast in four directions, so getting your eye lined up dead center down the rib takes minutes, not a trip to a stock fitter. The rib itself is also adjustable, letting you shift point of impact higher for trap or flatter for skeet and sporting without changing how you hold the gun. Add in a shim system that converts the stock from right to left handed use, a reversible crossbolt safety, and a tunable balance cap up front, and you have a shotgun that adapts to you instead of the other way around.
Between the gas operated action, the Kick-Off hydraulic recoil reducer in the stock, and the Micro Core recoil pad, this is one of the softest shooting 12 gauges you will find on a clays course. That matters more than people think when you are running a couple hundred targets in a day. Your shoulder stays fresh, your second shot on pairs comes back on target quicker, and you finish the round shooting as well as you started.
The Grade 2.5 walnut stock and forend sit nicely against the trim silver anodized receiver, so it holds its own on a rack full of over unders. Oversized bolt handle and release make loading and clearing easy with a gloved hand. If you shoot more than one clay discipline, this is the rare semi auto that genuinely covers all of them well.
Yes, and that is the whole point of this model. The B-Fast adjustable rib lets you raise or lower your point of impact, so you can set it high for trap targets and flatten it back out for skeet or sporting. Combined with the adjustable comb and included choke selection, one gun genuinely covers all three games.
Between the gas action, the Kick-Off hydraulic dampeners in the stock, and the Micro Core pad, felt recoil with standard target loads is remarkably soft, and many folks compare it to shooting a 20 gauge. It is a big deal on high volume days when you might run 200 or more rounds. Less fatigue means better focus on the back half of your round.
It is set up as a right-handed gun out of the box, but the stock shim system allows it to be reversed for left-handed use, and the crossbolt safety is reversible as well. The adjustable comb handles cast on or cast off, so lefties can get a proper fit without buying a dedicated left-hand model.
The Blink gas system is known for running a wide range of shells, and it handles typical 1oz and 1-1/8oz target loads without fuss. It cycles fast too, which helps on true pairs in sporting clays. Like any gas gun, keeping the piston area reasonably clean will keep it running smoothly for thousands of rounds between deep cleanings.
