The Beretta 92 has earned its reputation over decades of military and law enforcement service, and the 92GTS is what happens when Beretta pours all of that experience into one pistol. This full size 9mm keeps the classic aluminum frame and hammer-fired double/single action that made the 92 famous, then layers on the features today's pistol buyers expect. The slide is cut for red dots, the front sight is a bright fiber optic paired with a black serrated rear, and the dust cover wears a Picatinny rail for a light or laser.
The headline feature is the new ambidextrous frame-mounted Type G decocker. Unlike the slide-mounted lever on older 92 models, this one sits right where your thumb lives, and it works with Beretta's twin sear design to drop the hammer safely to half cock every time. There is no manual safety to fumble with, just a clean decock-and-go setup that DA/SA fans have been asking Beretta to build for years. The X-Treme S trigger uses DLC-coated components and a lightweight skeletonized hammer, giving you a smooth double action pull up front and a crisp, short single action press for every shot after.
Beretta went with the slimmer Vertec-style grip and a flat backstrap, which fits a wider range of hand sizes than the old-school 92 frame and points naturally. Combine that with the 92 series' famously light reciprocating slide mass and the 4.7 inch barrel, and you get a gun that stays flat, tracks fast, and rings steel way out past where most pistols get shy. Reviewers have run this thing in Steel Challenge and IPSC matches and out to 50 yards with no trouble.
At 33.3 ounces unloaded with a 15 round magazine capacity, the 92GTS is right at home as a nightstand gun, a range companion, or an entry into DA/SA competition divisions. If you have been waiting for the definitive modern Beretta 92, this is the one.
No, the 92GTS uses a Type G configuration, meaning it has an ambidextrous frame-mounted decocker only. Pushing up on the lever safely drops the hammer to half cock using Beretta's twin sear design, then the gun is ready to fire in double action. Many DA/SA fans prefer this setup because there is no safety lever to sweep off under stress.
Yes, the slide comes cut for optics from the factory. You will need the appropriate mounting plate for your specific red dot footprint, which is sold separately. The fiber optic front sight pairs nicely with a dot for fast target acquisition.
Not usually. The 92GTS is built on the slimmer Vertec-style frame, so it takes Vertec pattern grips rather than the wider classic 92FS panels. Grips made for the 92XI are a direct fit, and several aftermarket makers offer dedicated GTS options.
It handles both roles well. The full size frame, light 92-series recoil, 15+1 capacity, and accessory rail make it a natural home defense pistol, while the crisp single action trigger and flat shooting character have made it popular in Steel Challenge and IPSC-style matches. It is on the larger side for everyday concealed carry, so most owners run it as a range, duty, or nightstand gun.
