The Silver Pigeon I has been the go-to crossover over-under for more than 35 years, and the current generation is the most refined version Beretta has put out. The Vittoria Sporting variant is built around a scaled-down stock geometry, a semi-Montecarlo profile with reduced length of pull that fits smaller-framed clay shooters far better than a standard sporting stock ever will. The B-Fast adjustable comb lets you dial in cheek weld and sight picture, so instead of adapting yourself to the gun, you set the gun up around you. That kind of fit matters more than any other single factor when you're trying to break targets consistently.
The 30-inch barrels are Beretta's Steelium Optimabore HP design, made from tri-alloy steel that gets deep drilled, cold hammer forged, and vacuum stress relieved. Inside, a long double forcing cone reaching up to 80mm smooths the shot column's transition, which translates to noticeably softer recoil, less muzzle rise, and dense, uniform patterns with lead or steel loads. Five flush Optima-Choke HP tubes come with the gun, covering Cylinder through Full, so you're set for skeet doubles or a long crossing bird on the sporting course. A white front bead and steel mid bead ride the flat rib.
The redesigned top lever with its repositioned release pin makes opening and closing the action genuinely easier, a welcome change for newer shooters and anyone running high round counts. The 686 action itself uses two conical locking lugs set at mid-action between the barrels, keeping the receiver low-profile and strong. The richer floral engraving now extends across the receiver tail and hinge pins, and it looks sharp against the oil-finished European walnut and Schnabel forend.

Yes, the chambers are 3 inches and the Steelium Optimabore HP barrels are designed and tested for lead, steel, and high-performance steel loads. For clays use, most people will run standard 2-3/4 inch target loads, which this gun patterns beautifully. Just follow standard practice and use more open chokes with steel shot.
