Heavier buffers are handy if your rifle runs a bit overgassed or you want to smooth out the cycling. It's a simple swap that doesn't require changing anything else in the assembly.
For a clean install you'll want a lower receiver vise block and an armorer's wrench to properly torque the castle nut, generally in the 35 to 40 ft-lb range. An armorer's wrench keeps you from marring the castle nut or lower during tightening. Staking the castle nut afterward is a good idea so it doesn't back off under recoil.
