The A2 grip that came on most AR rifles was designed decades ago for a bladed, elbow-out shooting stance. The way people run carbines today is different, and the BCMGUNFIGHTER Mod 1 was built around that shift. It uses a reduced grip angle that sits more vertical in the hand, which lines your wrist and trigger finger up more naturally when you're squared off behind the rifle. A lot of folks who move off the A2 say they stop fighting to seat the bottom of their palm and just get a cleaner, more repeatable trigger press.
BCM makes several versions of this grip, and the Mod 1 is the one with the high-rise beavertail back strap. That raised web helps push your hand up high and tight against the receiver for better control and recoil management. It's the same modern angle found across the Gunfighter family, just with that extended backstrap that a lot of people prefer for a locked-in feel. The texture is aggressive enough to hang on to without chewing up your palm during a long day.
The base of the grip has a hinged trap door sealed with a water-resistant rubber gasket, so you've got a dry spot for a spare bolt, batteries, or a small cleaning kit. Fitment is handled by two included modular inserts. One is an extended piece that closes the gap between the trigger guard and the grip for a smooth, seamless transition. The other is a smooth insert meant for lowers with larger built-in trigger guards. You pick whichever one matches your setup and install it, so the grip drops in clean on a wide range of AR-15 and AR-308 lowers.

The Mod 1 has a fairly slim profile compared to bulkier grips, though it feels more filled-out than a bare A2 thanks to the beavertail. Most people find it drops the trigger finger right into place with the more vertical angle. If you want a noticeably wider grip, BCM offers a thicker Mod 3, but the Mod 1 is a great fit for average to smaller hands.
