When you want to see what your rifle and ammo can really do, nothing beats putting the gun on a stable front rest and letting the bench do the work. The Caldwell Rock Jr. takes many of the features from the full-size Rock rest and packs them into a smaller, lighter, more affordable package that's easy to toss in the truck and set up at the range. It's built around a cast iron base that weighs in around 4 pounds, giving the whole 5-pound unit the kind of low-slung stability you want when you're chasing a tight group.
The base uses a Y-shaped footprint to spread the weight out and keep things planted, and it rides on interchangeable feet. You get non-slip rubber feet for benches and hard surfaces, plus metal spike feet for digging into dirt or grass out in the field. That little bit of flexibility means the rest sits level and solid whether you're at a covered range or set up on natural terrain.
A 3/4-inch diameter steel post handles your elevation, giving you secure and smooth adjustments up to about 7 1/4 inches of height. The adjustment is placed so you can fine-tune your point of aim without pulling the rifle off the rest, which keeps your setup consistent from shot to shot. The included medium varmint front bag comes filled and ready to go, cradling slim, sporter-style stocks nicely, and since it plays well with the rest of Caldwell's front bag lineup, you can swap in a different bag if your rifle needs it.
For sighting in a new scope, load testing, or shooting some informal competition, the Rock Jr. is a lot of rest for a small footprint. It's a great first bench rest for someone getting serious about accuracy, and a handy grab-and-go option for anyone who already has a full rig at home.
Yes, the medium varmint front bag ships filled and ready to shoot right out of the box. There's no need to buy or add filler separately. Just set up the rest, drop your forend into the bag, and you're good to go.
The medium varmint bag is shaped to cradle slim, sporter-style forends, so most hunting and varmint rifles sit in it nicely. If you shoot a wider benchrest or heavy-barrel stock, the rest is compatible with Caldwell's other front bags, so you can swap in one that fits your forend better.
Absolutely. It comes with interchangeable feet, so you can run the non-slip rubber feet on a hard bench or switch to the metal spike feet to dig into dirt or grass. That makes it steady whether you're at a covered range or set up on natural ground.
The 3/4-inch steel post gives you smooth elevation adjustment up to about 7 1/4 inches of height. The knob is positioned so you can fine-tune your aim without lifting the rifle off the rest, which helps keep everything consistent shot to shot.
