The WORKHORSE complete upper is Battle Arms Development's take on a no-nonsense, hard-use 5.56 platform, and it's set up to make finishing an AR-15 build about as easy as it gets. It's built around a forged 7075-T6 aluminum receiver with a Type III hard-coat anodized finish, M4 feed ramps for smooth feeding, and a factory-installed forward assist and port door. The signature notch cut on the receiver lines up with the WORKHORSE rail for that clean, matched look. What sets this one apart from a lot of "complete" uppers is that it actually arrives ready to run, with a Battle Arms bolt carrier group and the ambidextrous RACK charging handle already installed.
The heart of it is a 16in barrel machined from 4150 chrome-moly vanadium steel with a black nitride finish, so it holds up to heat, wear, and weather without babysitting. It runs a 1:7 twist that stabilizes heavier bullet weights nicely, feeds through an M4 barrel extension, and sits on a mid-length gas system with a .750in low-profile gas block. That mid-length setup is the sweet spot on a 16in gun, softening recoil and smoothing out the cycle compared to a shorter carbine-length system. A 1/2×28 threaded muzzle wears an A2 flash hider out of the box and leaves you room to swap in a brake or can down the road.
The 15in WORKHORSE free-float M-LOK rail is slim, lightweight, and skeletonized to shave grams without giving up rigidity. You get M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions for lights, bipods, grips, and sling hardware, plus a continuous Picatinny top rail that runs the length for optics and back-up irons. Free-floating the barrel keeps your accessories from affecting point of impact, and the extra real estate lets you get a longer, more stable grip. It's an optics-ready platform, so you're free to set it up exactly how you shoot.
Yes, this one arrives fully complete with a Battle Arms bolt carrier group and the ambidextrous RACK charging handle already installed. That's a big deal since a lot of uppers labeled "complete" still make you source those parts separately. All you need to add is a complete lower and you're ready to run.
The barrel runs a 1:7 twist, which is on the faster end for a 5.56 AR. That twist does a great job stabilizing heavier bullet weights in the 62 to 77 grain range while still shooting lighter loads just fine. It gives you flexibility to feed it a wide variety of .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO ammo.
It will. The WORKHORSE is built on a forged mil-spec 7075-T6 upper receiver, so it drops onto any standard AR-15 lower with the usual takedown and pivot pins. The barrel also uses M4 feed ramps, so pairing it with an M4-cut lower gives you the smoothest feeding.
Mid-length gas is the sweet spot for a 16in barrel. Compared to a shorter carbine-length system, it spreads the pressure curve out, which softens felt recoil and smooths the cycle while cutting down on wear over time. It's one of the reasons the WORKHORSE feels so controllable at the range.
