The Avian X AVXTKY03 is a turkey choke made for 12 gauge barrels running the Browning Invector Plus system, and it also drops into Browning Maxus and a range of Winchester autos and pumps like the SX2, SX3, SX4 and SXP. It carries a .665 constriction, which is right in the sweet spot for throwing dense, even gobbler patterns without closing things down so far that your load gets choked out. The body is tempered steel wearing a black PVD finish, so it holds up to high powered turkey loads and wipes clean without much fuss.
The real work happens on the inside. Unique internal groove technology helps strip the pellets away from the wad early, and the straight rifling keeps the wad from spinning. That means the wad does not fling pellets outward as it exits the muzzle, so more of your payload stays in a dense core on the target. At turkey ranges, that translates to a higher pellet count on the head and neck where it counts.
This is a ported choke, and the radial porting routes exhaust gas away from the shot string so it does not blow the pattern apart as the load leaves the barrel. Castle cuts machined into the crown lock the choke tight in the barrel and double as exhaust channels for gas to escape quickly. The end face comes polished for a cleaner seat and a better seal inside your barrel, which keeps fouling down and makes removal easier down the road.
One of the handier things about the AVXTKY03 is how versatile it is on payload. It is rated for steel, tungsten, bismuth and lead, so whether you are feeding it affordable lead loads or stepping up to premium TSS for the extra reach, this choke can run it. Measuring 3.9 inches, it is an extended design, so you get a little barrel sticking out and easy grip when it is time to swap or snug it down.
This choke is cut for the Browning Invector Plus system, so it fits Browning Invector Plus and Maxus 12 gauge barrels. It also fits a range of Winchester models including the SX2, SX3, SX4 and SXP. Double check that your barrel is marked Invector Plus and not standard Invector, since the two are not interchangeable.
It runs a .665 constriction, which is a popular turkey-tight dimension for 12 gauge. That tends to produce dense, even patterns with modern turkey loads without over-constricting. As always, pattern your gun with the exact load you plan to hunt to confirm your point of impact and density at your chosen distance.
Yes. The AVXTKY03 is rated for steel, tungsten, bismuth and lead, so premium TSS loads are fair game. Running TSS through a .665 turkey choke like this is a common combination for hunters chasing extra reach and pellet count.
It is. The radial porting routes exhaust gas away from the shot string to help keep patterns tight, and the castle-cut crown adds extra exhaust channels while locking the choke securely in the barrel. The ported design can also take a little edge off felt recoil.
