There are plenty of custom 1911s out there, but Auto-Ordnance went a different route with this one. Rather than shipping it off to a generic engraving shop, they partnered with Outlaw Ordnance, a Louisiana-based custom firearms outfit, to create something that goes well beyond a standard commemorative piece. The result is the Cold Dead Hands edition: a full-size .45 ACP 1911 with real craftsmanship behind the artwork and a functional build underneath it.
The engraving tells the whole story. The aluminum grips feature a coiled serpent and skull motif with the phrase "Pry it From My Cold Dead Hands." The left side of the slide is engraved "Shall Not Be Infringed," and the right side carries "76" circled by thirteen stars. The Cerakote finish is a custom mix of Light Sand and Plum Brown applied with a weathered, distressed effect. Worth noting: because each one is hand-created, no two are exactly alike, so minor variations in the finish are part of what you're getting.
Beyond the looks, the Cold Dead Hands is built on Auto-Ordnance's stainless steel 1911 platform with a legitimate feature set. The 5-inch match grade barrel pairs with a full-length guide rod, high-sweep beavertail, skeletonized trigger, and checkered front strap. The slide is serrated and ported, which helps manage felt recoil and makes for faster follow-up shots. TruGlo day sights round things out and give you a usable sight picture at the range. This isn't a safe queen that's afraid to get shot.

The custom Cerakote finish is durable enough for range use. That said, the unique hand-crafted engraving and limited-edition nature do make it a strong collector piece as well.

Standard Government-model 1911 magazines from reputable manufacturers like Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, or Metalform are compatible. The pistol will also accept higher-capacity 8-round 1911 magazines from most major brands.
Yes, Auto-Ordnance stainless 1911 models include a Series 80-style firing pin block in addition to the standard thumb safety and grip safety. This adds a passive drop safety that keeps the firing pin from moving forward unless the trigger is pulled. It is a feature that some traditional 1911 purists debate, but it adds an extra layer of passive safety for everyday handling.
The slide porting helps reduce perceived muzzle flip and felt recoil by allowing gases to vent upward as the bullet exits the barrel.
