Auto-Ordnance has been building 1911s in America for a long time, and their Stainless 1911 series is where that history meets a solid package of modern upgrades. The 1911TCAC9 is the Black Cherry Cerakote version, and the finish speaks for itself, a deep reddish-purple Cerakote applied to both the stainless steel frame and slide that gives it a genuinely distinctive look without going over the top.
Under the finish, you are getting a match-grade 5-inch stainless steel barrel chambered in .45 ACP, a full-length recoil guide rod, skeletonized hammer, adjustable trigger, and an extended beavertail grip safety. The mainspring housing and front strap are machined checkered at 20 lines per inch, which is a nice touch that gives you a confident grip without being abrasive. The slide features decorative ports and front cocking serrations, and the sear and disconnector are heat-treated for long-term durability. These are the kinds of upgrades people typically spend money adding to a base 1911, and they come standard here.
The grips are custom engraved aluminum billet panels with an Armor Black Cerakote finish and the Auto-Ordnance logo. They complement the Black Cherry slide and frame nicely and give the gun a two-tone look that feels intentional rather than accidental. Sights are 3-dot Combat Day Sights for quick target acquisition in normal lighting conditions.
Three safety systems are on board: a manual thumb safety, grip safety, and firing pin block. The pistol ships with one 7-round .45 ACP magazine and is made in the USA. It is a solid choice for range use, a collector who wants something with a bit more character than a standard blued or stainless 1911, or anyone who appreciates a platform that has been refined over more than a century and wants to own a version with some personality.
The Black Cherry Cerakote 1911TCAC9 ships with 3-dot Combat Day Sights. Night sights with TruGlo tritium inserts are only included on the Savage Stainless model (1911TCAC6N). If you want night sights on this model, standard 1911 sight cuts make it easy to swap in aftermarket options.
Cerakote is a ceramic-based polymer coating that holds up very well to heat, solvents, moisture, and everyday wear. It is used extensively on duty and competition firearms for exactly that reason. The Black Cherry finish on this pistol is applied to the stainless steel frame and slide, so you have both a corrosion-resistant base material and a tough topcoat working together.
This is one of the stronger selling points of the series. The 1911TCAC9 comes with an adjustable trigger, skeletonized hammer, full-length recoil guide rod, extended beavertail grip safety, extended magazine release, and machined front strap and mainspring housing checkering at 20 lines per inch. On a base GI-spec 1911, most of those parts would be aftermarket upgrades. Getting them from the factory saves time and money.
The adjustable trigger on this 1911 allows you to fine-tune the overtravel and take-up to suit your preference. It gives you more control over the feel of the trigger without needing to swap parts or visit a gunsmith for basic adjustments. That said, if you plan to make significant changes, having a knowledgeable 1911 smith take a look is always a good idea.
The 1911TCAC9 ships with one 7-round .45 ACP magazine and accepts standard government-model 1911 single-stack magazines. There is a wide selection of quality aftermarket options available from manufacturers like Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, and Tripp Research. Stick with reputable brands for reliable feeding.
The 1911 is a single-action pistol with a manual safety, so there is a bit of a learning curve if you are coming from striker-fired guns. That said, the government-model format is one of the most widely documented and supported pistol platforms in existence, with no shortage of training resources and instructors familiar with it. The factory upgrades on this model, like the extended beavertail and improved checkering, actually make it more comfortable and user-friendly than a bare-bones GI version.
