GSG did their homework on the profile. The lines, markings, and finish stay true to the original, right down to the distinctive stick magazine hanging under the receiver. The frame is cast from Zamak 5 zinc alloy with polymer accents, which gives the gun real heft, about 7.9 pounds with the magazine. That weight works in your favor, soaking up 9mm recoil until follow-up shots feel almost effortless. The rear sight offers two settings for near and far targets, and the package includes multiple front sight heights so you can dial in your point of impact with your preferred load.
This is a closed-bolt semi-auto built around modern 9mm Luger, so it happily digs through affordable brass-cased range ammo. The 10.8 inch barrel gets good velocity out of the cartridge, and the 25 round magazine keeps you shooting longer between reloads. The included loading tool makes topping off the mag quick and easy on the thumbs, much like the loaders that accompanied the originals. Keep in mind this is a new-production firearm, so it does not accept original wartime MP-40 parts or magazines.

Spare magazines built specifically for the GSG MP40P are available from American Tactical and most major magazine retailers.

As with any blowback-style pistol, sticking with factory ammo in its original packaging and giving it a proper cleaning schedule will keep it running smoothly.
