The Arex Zero 1S doesn't try to reinvent the wheel. What it does instead is take the best elements of the classic full-size service pistol formula and execute them with modern CNC machining and tighter tolerances than you typically find at this price point. Built entirely in Slovenia and imported to the US by FIME Group, the Zero 1S has earned a reputation as a workhorse that simply runs. It passed NATO STANAG 4512 reliability testing, which covers everything from extreme temperatures and mud to drop tests and firing without lubrication. Arex backs the pistol with a limited lifetime warranty for civilian purchasers.
The frame is milled from 7075-T6 aluminum with a hardcoat anodized finish and a steel locking block insert for long-term durability. The slide is machined from solid bar stock and treated with a nitrocarburizing process for corrosion resistance. The barrel is a one-piece, cold hammer-forged unit that is also nitrocarburized, with full-length slide rails enhancing accuracy and overall rigidity. A blade-style loaded chamber indicator sits on top of the slide and provides both visual and tactile confirmation of a chambered round.
One of the things that sets the Zero 1S apart from straight DA/SA designs like the SIG P226 is the addition of an ambidextrous manual thumb safety. You can run it traditional DA/SA with the hammer down, or carry it cocked-and-locked like a 1911. The decocker doubles as the slide stop, which keeps the controls clean and consolidated. Up front, a Picatinny rail on the dust cover lets you mount a light or laser without any modifications. The oversized trigger guard accommodates gloved hands, and front and rear cocking serrations make slide manipulation straightforward.
This FDE variant pairs the Flat Dark Earth nitride slide with a black polymer grip and a black hardcoat anodized aluminum frame. Three-dot steel sights are mounted via dovetail cuts, making swaps easy down the road. The slightly flared magazine well feeds smoothly, and Arex's proprietary magazines use a progressive-rate spring that stays reliable all the way to round 17. Two 17+1 capacity magazines are included in the box.

On this specific model, the FDE color is applied to the nitrocarburized steel slide, while the frame carries a matte black hardcoat anodized finish and the grip panels are black polymer. It's a two-tone look that gives the pistol a distinctive appearance without being over-the-top.
The standard Zero 1S is not optics-ready from the factory and does not come with a milled slide or optic mounting plates. The Picatinny rail on the dust cover can mount a light or laser, but adding a red dot to the slide typically requires aftermarket work or gunsmithing. If optics-ready capability is a priority out of the box, look at the Arex Zero 1 Tactical variants instead.
Arex manufactures their own magazines for the Zero 1S, and they've been widely available through US importers and distributors at reasonable prices. The magazines use a progressive-rate spring design that Arex developed in-house, which keeps feeding reliable all the way through round 17. Two magazines come included with this FDE model.
The Zero 1S has a growing ecosystem of holster support from brands like Safariland and various Kydex makers. Its overall footprint is similar to the SIG P226, so some P226-compatible holsters may fit depending on the maker's specs.
