Description

Geissele took the guesswork out of your carbine buffer setup and put everything worth having into one package. This assembly brings together a premium mil-spec receiver extension, the Super 42 braided wire spring, an H1 buffer, plus a quality castle nut and end plate. It's the kind of upgrade that quietly makes your rifle run better without you having to source three or four parts from different places and hope they play nice together.

What the Super 42 Buffer Tube Assembly Actually Does

The heart of this kit is the Super 42 spring, and it earns its reputation. Instead of a single coil of wire, it uses three independent strands braided together, borrowing the concept from the German MG42 machine gun. Those strands flex separately from one another, which lets the spring act like a harmonic damper and energy absorber. In plain terms, that means smoother cycling, less felt vibration, and no more of that tinny twang buzzing through the buttstock every time the bolt slams home. The spring also carries roughly 15 percent stronger return force than a standard buffer spring, which helps strip fresh rounds out of the magazine when your gun is dirty or you're running steel-case ammo.

Built to Mil-Spec and Made in the USA

The receiver extension is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in Type 3 hardcoat anodize, here in the Desert Dirt Color that Geissele is known for. It runs true mil-spec diameter with six stock positions, weighs about 3.7 ounces, and drops right onto your AR-15 lower while playing nice with most quality mil-spec stocks. The H1 buffer that comes in the box is the same configuration the military runs in the M4 carbine, weighing around 3.8 ounces.

Getting the Super 42 Assembly Running Right

This setup is dialed in for carbine-length receiver extensions and shines in 16-inch rifles with mid-length or carbine gas systems, along with 18-inch SPRs. One thing worth knowing: the Super 42 spring and its buffer are a matched pair and need to stay together, since the braided spring won't seat correctly over a standard buffer. It's not the pick for rifle-length or A5 tubes, and Geissele doesn't recommend it with subsonic 300 Blackout since the stronger spring can keep the gun from fully cycling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What gas systems does the Super 42 H1 assembly work best with?

The H1 buffer paired with the Super 42 spring is dialed in for carbine and mid-length gas systems, and it runs well in 16-inch rifles and 18-inch SPRs. Some 14.5-inch builds do fine with H1, though many of those benefit from bumping up to an H2. If you're running a suppressor or a shorter barrel, you may want a heavier buffer to slow the carrier down.

Can I use the Super 42 spring with my existing buffer?

No, the Super 42 spring and its matched buffer are designed to work as a set and need to stay together. The braided spring won't seat correctly over a standard buffer, and forcing it can damage your rifle or receiver extension. Just install the H1 buffer that comes in the box and you're good to go.

Will this fit a rifle-length or A5 buffer tube?

This assembly is built for carbine-length receiver extensions only and is not compatible with rifle-length or A5 tubes. Geissele does offer a separate rifle-length version of the Super 42 if that's what your build needs.

Does the Super 42 assembly get rid of the spring twang?

Yes, that's one of the biggest reasons people grab it. The three-strand braided design absorbs the vibration that causes the tinny twang you hear and feel through the buttstock with a standard carbine spring. Most folks notice a smoother, quieter cycle right away.
