The Sinclair International Heavy Varmint Rest is one of those pieces of gear that quietly earns its keep every time you sit down behind the bench. This All-Purpose version comes with right-hand windage, meaning the adjustment knob lands on the correct side for a right-handed shooter to work with the off hand while staying on the gun. It's part of Sinclair's Heavy Varmint series, an evolution of the older Generation II and Competition rests that serious benchrest folks have leaned on for years.
What you're getting here is real hardware, not fluff. The rest is built around a heavy-duty stainless steel center column and a 1-inch stainless post, topped with an oversized scalloped hand wheel that runs on a thrust bearing for smooth vertical adjustments. The 1/2-20 threaded feet wear oversized aluminum anodized knobs with no plastic parts in the mix, and there's a fully adjustable forend stop so you can return to the same spot shot after shot. The whole thing tips the scales up around 17 pounds with a filled bag, which is exactly what you want in a rest that stays planted on the bench.
The All-Purpose top is the star of this configuration. It quick-adjusts to handle nearly any forend, so you can go from a narrow sporter stock to a 3-1/2 inch BR stock with a turn of a lever. The windage top adds fast horizontal movements by turning that knob on the side of the rest top, which is a big help when you're chasing conditions or fine-tuning your setup between strings.
The blemished base is where the value comes in. The cosmetic difference is usually a beveled edge that's a touch more pronounced than a standard base, but it's still powder coated over Sinclair's ductile cast iron construction. It looks a hair different and shoots identical, which makes it a smart pickup if you'd rather put your money into the mechanics than the paint.
It includes a dual-sided leather/cordura sand bag, but it ships unfilled. You'll need to add your own fill material to set it up the way you like. Some folks also run a separate Protektor or Edgewood front bag matched to their forend width.
Blem just means the base has a minor cosmetic variance, usually a beveled edge that's a little more pronounced than a standard base. It's still Sinclair's ductile cast iron base with a powder coat finish, and the difference doesn't affect performance at all. You get the same rest for less because of a small looks-only quirk.
The right-hand windage top puts the adjustment knob on the correct side for a right-handed shooter to reach with the off hand while staying behind the rifle. That lets you make quick horizontal corrections without breaking your position. Left-handed shooters would order the LH version instead.
