Berger built the 30 Caliber 220 Grain Long Range Hybrid Target to answer one question that every long range reloader eventually runs into: how do you keep your bullets flying the same way, shot after shot, all the way out past 1,000 yards? The answer here is a combination of a sleek hybrid ogive, a heavy 220 grain weight, and Berger's Meplat Reduction Technology working together to deliver a bullet that holds its line when the wind picks up and the distance stretches out.
The hybrid ogive on this bullet blends a tangent shape near the bearing surface with a secant profile up front. The tangent section makes it forgiving and easy to tune to your chamber, while the secant portion cuts drag and trims wind drift. That combination is why so many handloaders call the Long Range Hybrid Target jump-tolerant. You don't have to chase the lands to find accuracy, which saves a lot of frustration at the loading bench. With a G1 BC of 0.717 and a G7 of 0.369, this 220 grain projectile carries energy and resists wind as well as anything in its class.
Berger's Meplat Reduction Technology applies controlled pressure to the nose of each bullet, shaping every tip the same way and bringing it closer to the rotational axis for better in-flight balance. The result is BC variation that Berger has Doppler radar verified at less than one percent. Pair that with the J4 Target Jacket, known for its tight concentricity, and you get a projectile that performs the same from the first bullet in the box to the last.
This one was designed with F-TR and other long range disciplines in mind, and the 220 grain weight loves a fast twist barrel. Berger lists a minimum twist of 1:10 or faster to stabilize it properly, so check your barrel before you commit a load to it. It drops into common .30 caliber cases and rewards careful load development with the kind of downrange consistency that keeps groups tight when the yardage gets serious. Keep in mind these are component bullets for reloading, not loaded ammunition.

Berger lists a minimum twist of 1:10 inches or faster to properly stabilize this 220 grain bullet. A faster twist like 1:9 or 1:8 will also work fine. Check your barrel's twist rate before loading to make sure you'll get good stability and accuracy.
The hybrid ogive starts as a tangent shape near the bearing surface, which makes the bullet forgiving about seating depth. That means you can get good accuracy without having to fine-tune the distance to the lands. It's a big time saver during load development.
Berger uses its Meplat Reduction Technology to form every bullet nose with controlled pressure, producing a repeatable tip shape from bullet to bullet. That process, combined with the J4 Target Jacket, keeps BC variation under one percent, a figure Berger has verified with Doppler radar. Consistent BC means less vertical dispersion and tighter groups at distance.
