The 1791 Gunleather RVHX-1 is a thumb-break belt holster made for the classic snub-nose crowd. It's cut and molded for S&W J-frame revolvers and their close cousins, riding outside the waistband so your revolver sits high and tight against your side. That high ride keeps the profile below the belt to a minimum, which is exactly why folks can get away with concealing under a plain polo instead of hunting for an oversized cover garment.
The leather here is 100% certified American heavy native steerhide, hand-molded and reinforced with double stitching so it holds its shape and stands up to daily wear. Carried on a good belt, an OWB rig like this spreads the revolver's weight across your hip instead of digging into one spot, which makes a real difference on long days. Leather also warms to your body and breaks in to your specific gun over time, giving you that snug, custom feel that a lot of folks prefer over stiffer synthetic setups.
The headline feature is the retention strap. The thumb-break tab snaps over the back of the revolver and keeps it locked in place whether you're running, bending, or twisting around. Once you've practiced it a few times it's nearly as quick as an open-top holster, with the bonus of Level 2 retention that keeps your revolver put while you're moving around.
Some break-in is normal with a quality leather holster. Many owners find the RVHX-1 seats their revolver well fairly quickly, though it can take a little time to conform perfectly to your specific gun. A snug initial fit is a good sign, since the leather loosens slightly and molds to your firearm with use.
It works well for both. The holster rides high with a minimal profile below the belt, which lets a lot of folks conceal comfortably under a polo or an untucked shirt. Since it's outside the waistband, it also stays comfortable during long days of wear.
