The Phoenix has a story behind it. POF-USA first teased this design back in 2015 as the PSG subgun, then brought it back from the dead years later, which is exactly how it earned the Phoenix name. What came out of that long development is one of the more thoughtfully built pistol caliber ARs on the market, machined in Phoenix, Arizona with the same attention to detail POF puts into their big-bore rifles.
The upper receiver and M-LOK handguard are one continuous monolithic piece, so there is no separate rail to work loose and no weak point where a handguard bolts on. Up front you get a non-reciprocating ambidextrous charging handle that can be run from either side, which is a genuinely useful touch when you are working around an optic or shooting off a barricade. The billet lower carries fully ambidextrous controls, and the whole package runs on a simple direct blowback system that thrives on a steady diet of 9mm without the fuss of a gas system. The 8.5 inch barrel wears POF's two port muzzle brake on 1/2×28 threads, so swapping to a suppressor takes about a minute, and the 1:10 twist stabilizes common bullet weights just fine.
Instead of adapting someone else's magazine, POF designed a proprietary 35 round double stack mag with a curved body for smooth, reliable feeding, and they toss in a loader so topping it off does not wear out your thumbs. That 35+1 capacity means long strings at the range between reloads, which is half the fun of a pistol caliber platform like this.
A full length Picatinny rail on top handles red dots or magnifier setups, the M-LOK slots take lights and grips, and the 1913 rail at the rear of the receiver leaves the door open for future additions. Between the QD end cap, the ambi layout, and cheap 9mm ammo, this is the kind of gun that gets shot a lot, and that is the best compliment we can give it.
Neither. POF designed a proprietary 35 round double stack magazine specifically for the Phoenix, with a curved body that helps rounds stack naturally and feed reliably. It comes with a loader in the box, and POF sells spare mags separately if you want a few extras on hand.
Yes. The barrel is threaded 1/2×28 under the included two port muzzle brake, so a 9mm can spins right on. Since it runs a direct blowback action with no gas system to tune, the Phoenix makes a very easy host for suppressed shooting.
There is a 1913 Picatinny rail at the rear of the receiver that accepts Picatinny-mounted accessories, so you have options back there. Up top, the full length rail on the monolithic upper handles red dots and other optics, and the M-LOK handguard takes lights, grips, and the included hand stop.
The Phoenix uses a forward mounted, non-reciprocating charging handle that sits along the handguard rather than at the rear like a standard AR. It is ambidextrous and can be set up on the left or right side, so lefties and righties both get a comfortable setup. Because it does not move during firing, you can keep a hand near it without worry.
