The Shield Plus in .30 Super Carry is one of the more interesting carry guns on the market right now. Smith & Wesson took the platform everyone already knows and loves, widened the grip just enough to stack more rounds, and chambered it in a cartridge designed from the ground up for concealed carry. The result is a pistol that's only marginally thicker than the original Shield but holds 13 rounds flush or 16 with the extended mag. That's more rounds than a Glock 19 in a package you can actually tuck into a waistband.
The .30 Super Carry cartridge was engineered by Federal to split the difference between .380 ACP and 9mm. The bullet is narrower at .312 inches, which is what allows that extra capacity without blowing up the grip size. Ballistically, it launches a 100-grain projectile around 1,250 fps with roughly 347 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. It's not going to unseat 9mm from the top spot anytime soon, but it hits harder than .380 and carries more rounds than 9mm in a gun this size.
