Description

There's a lot to like about a .308 AR that shows up with the upgrades already done, and that's the whole idea behind the DB10 Black Gold. Diamondback builds these in Cocoa, Florida, and this Black Gold Series version steps up from the base DB10 with a Black Gold lower featuring an enhanced trigger guard, upgraded Magpul furniture, and their DBSB-IV flash hider up front. The heart of the rifle is an 18-inch fluted 416R stainless steel barrel with a 1:10 twist, fed by a rifle-length gas system. That longer gas system is worth paying attention to on a big-bore AR, since it takes a lot of the sharpness out of .308 recoil and keeps the gun running smoother than shorter systems tend to.

What Sets the DB10 Black Gold Apart

The bolt carrier is shot-peened, magnetic particle inspected Mil-Spec 8620, and both receivers are machined from 7075-T6 aluminum with a hardcoat anodized finish. Out front, the 15-inch M-LOK V-Rail with anti-slip texturing gives you a slim grip surface and plenty of real estate for lights, bipods, and hand stops. The flat-top upper ships without sights, so plan on adding an optic, which is really how a rifle like this deserves to be set up anyway. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, so swapping the flash hider for a brake or suppressor mount down the road is simple.

Furniture and Feeding

Magpul handled the touch points here. The CTR stock adjusts for length of pull and locks up tight without the rattle you get from cheaper collapsible stocks, and the MOE-K2 grip puts your hand at a more vertical angle that a lot of folks prefer for precision work. A 20-round Gen M3 PMAG comes in the box, giving you 20+1 on tap.

Where the Diamondback DB10 Fits

At 8.73 pounds with an overall length between 36 and 39.25 inches, this is a manageable package for a .308 AR. It makes sense as a deer and hog rifle, a longer-range range gun, or a do-it-all semi-auto in a proven caliber that hits harder and reaches farther than the 5.56 platforms most of us started on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Diamondback DB10 Black Gold come with sights?

No, it ships with a bare A3 flat-top upper and no iron sights. The Picatinny rail along the receiver and handguard gives you plenty of room to mount a scope, red dot, or LPVO. Given the 18-inch barrel and .308 chambering, most owners run a magnified optic to take advantage of the cartridge's reach.

What makes the Black Gold Series different from the standard DB10?

The Black Gold line is Diamondback's mid-tier upgrade over the base models. You get the Black Gold lower receiver with an enhanced trigger guard, the DB V-Rail handguard with anti-slip texturing, upgraded Magpul furniture including the CTR stock and MOE-K2 grip, and the DBSB-IV flash hider. It's essentially the base rifle with the common aftermarket upgrades already installed.

Can I add a muzzle brake or suppressor to the DB10 in .308?

Yes. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, which is the standard pattern for .308 caliber muzzle devices. Just remove the factory flash hider and you can install most brakes, compensators, or suppressor mounts made for .30 caliber rifles.

Is the DB10 Black Gold a good hunting rifle?

It's a solid pick for deer and hog hunting. The .308 Win cartridge has more than enough energy for medium and large game, and the 18-inch fluted stainless barrel keeps the rifle balanced without giving up much velocity. At 8.73 pounds it's heavier than a bolt gun, but the quick follow-up shots from the semi-auto action are a real advantage on hogs.
