Waterfowl guns get treated worse than just about any firearm out there. Mud, salt spray, freezing rain, getting laid across the bottom of a boat. The Maxus II Wicked Wing in AURIC camo is built with all of that in mind. The receiver and barrel wear Burnt Bronze Cerakote, which holds up to moisture far better than traditional bluing, and the composite stock carries Browning's AURIC concealment pattern with rubber overmolding on the grip and forearm so the gun stays put in cold, wet hands. Inside, the bolt, bolt slide, shell carrier, and controls get a nickel Teflon treatment, and the chamber and bore are chromed for extra corrosion resistance.
The heart of this gun is the Power Drive gas system, and it is a big reason the Maxus line built its reputation. The piston holds gas pressure with light loads and bleeds off the excess with heavy ones, so the same gun that cycles 2-3/4 inch practice loads will run 3-1/2 inch magnum goose loads without complaint. Soft shooting comes standard here too. Between the gas operation, the 1-1/2 inch thick Inflex recoil pad, and the SoftFlex cheek pad, a long morning of heavy steel loads is a lot easier on your shoulder and your face. The Lightning trigger is crisp with a fast lock time, and the ramped trigger guard helps funnel shells into the loading port when birds are working and you need to top off quick.
This version runs a 26 inch back-bored barrel with a flat vent rib, fiber optic front sight, and ivory mid bead. It swings quick in tight timber or a layout blind and still points smooth on passing shots. Overall length is 47-3/8 inches and it weighs right around seven pounds, so it carries well on long walks to the X. The stock can be trimmed and adjusted with the included shims and spacers for cast, drop, and length of pull, and the oversized bolt handle and bolt release are easy to run with gloves on.
Browning rounds out the package with three extended Invector-Plus Goose Band choke tubes in full, modified, and improved cylinder, plus an ABS hard case. Load up, get out early, and put this one to work.
Yes, this model has a 3-1/2 inch chamber, and the Power Drive gas system is designed to cycle everything from 2-3/4 inch loads up to full magnum goose loads. The piston retains pressure with light loads and vents excess gas with heavy ones, so you get reliable cycling across the whole range without swapping anything out.
It ships with three extended Invector-Plus Goose Band choke tubes in Full, Modified, and Improved Cylinder. That covers most waterfowl setups right out of the box, from decoying ducks up close to longer passing shots on geese. The extended design also makes swapping tubes in the field quicker.
It is. The gun comes with a fit kit that includes length of pull spacers plus shims for adjusting cast and drop, and the composite stock is designed so it can be trimmed up to 3/4 inch for a shorter length of pull. That makes it a lot easier to get a proper fit, especially when you are shooting in heavy cold weather layers.
