Description

Plenty of pocket pistols feel like an afterthought. The Kahr P380 is the opposite. It takes everything Kahr learned building their bigger carry guns and shrinks it down to 4.9 inches long, 3.9 inches tall, and just 0.75 inches wide. At 9.97 ounces without the magazine, you can drop it in a pocket holster or strap it to an ankle and forget it's there until you need it.

What sets the P380 apart from other guns this size is the build quality underneath. The barrel is a premium Lothar Walther match grade unit with polygonal rifling, which squeezes a bit more velocity out of short-barrel hollow point loads than conventional rifling does. The slide is machined from solid 416 stainless bar stock with a matte finish, and it locks back on the last round, something a lot of micro .380s skip entirely. The black polymer frame has 4140 steel inserts molded in front and back for rigidity, plus checkering on the front and back straps so the little gun stays put in your hand.

The trigger is Kahr's well-known double action only design, driven by their patented safe cam action. It's a long, smooth pull with no stacking, paired with a passive striker block, so there are no levers or switches to fumble with under stress. Up top you get real drift-adjustable night sights dovetailed into the slide, a genuine upgrade over the gutter sights or molded bumps found on most pocket guns. A loaded chamber indicator and an all-metal magazine catch round out the practical touches.

This one ships with a flush-fit 6-round stainless steel magazine for a 6+1 capacity, along with a lockable hard case. For anyone wanting a deep concealment or backup gun that still has usable sights, a quality barrel, and a trigger you can run accurately, the P380 earns its spot. It costs more than the bargain-bin micro .380s, and once you handle one, you'll see where that money went.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the slide lock back on the last round?

Yes, and that's worth pointing out because plenty of micro .380s don't do this. The P380's slide locks open after the final round, so you get a clear visual cue that the gun is empty and faster reloads when you swap magazines.

Is there a manual safety on the Kahr P380?

No external safety. The P380 relies on its long, deliberate double action only trigger pull and a passive striker block that prevents the gun from firing if dropped. It's a simple system with nothing to disengage when you need the gun in a hurry, which is why a lot of folks prefer it for carry.

How does the trigger compare to other pocket pistols?

Kahr triggers have a strong reputation, and the P380 is no exception. It's a long DAO pull, but it's smooth from start to finish without the gritty stacking you feel on a lot of small guns. One thing to note: there's no double-strike capability, so if you get a light primer strike, the fix is to rack the slide rather than pull the trigger again.

Is the P380 hard to shoot with such a small frame?

Recoil is snappy like any sub-10-ounce pistol, but the lock breech design soaks up more of it than the blowback .380s it competes with. The textured grip with front and back strap checkering helps you hang on, and the real dovetailed sights make it far easier to shoot accurately than guns with molded-in sights. Most people find it more pleasant at the range than they expect.

What ammo runs best in the P380?

It feeds standard pressure .380 ACP ball and quality hollow points reliably once broken in. Kahr recommends a break-in period of around 200 rounds before carrying any of their pistols, which is good practice with any defensive gun. The Lothar Walther polygonal barrel also tends to deliver slightly higher velocities with hollow points, a nice bonus from a 2.53 inch tube.

What comes in the box?

You get the pistol, one flush-fit 6-round stainless steel magazine, and a lockable hard case. The flush magazine keeps the grip as short as possible for deep concealment. Extended 7-round magazines with a grip-extending base are available separately from Kahr if you want more capacity and a spot for your pinky.
