Anyone who has run a can hard knows the two headaches that come with it: heat mirage dancing in front of your optic and a suppressor too hot to touch when it's time to pack up. Yankee Hill Machine built this 4.5 inch cover to deal with both, and they sized it specifically for their compact cans. It fits the Turbo K, Resonator K, and R9, so if you're running one of those short suppressors, this is the cover made for it.
The construction here is a three-part sandwich that makes sense once you break it down. The base layer sitting against the suppressor is flash rated to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit, the middle layer is rated to 1800 degrees, and the outer shell is 1000 denier Cordura nylon that shrugs off abrasion, water, fading, rot, and mildew. Even the thread is fire resistant, which is the kind of detail that gets skipped on cheaper covers and shows up later as split seams. The result is a cover that knocks down mirage over your sight picture and cuts the heat signature coming off a hot can.
Plenty of covers fit fine on day one, then start creeping and rotating after a few range trips. YHM went with a locking strap retention system instead of relying on friction or laces alone, so the cover cinches down and stays where you put it shot after shot. No walking forward toward the muzzle, no spinning loose, no glancing up mid-string wondering where your cover went.
At 4.5 inches, this cover matches the short profile of YHM's K-series and R9 cans without hanging over the end cap or bunching up. It's a smart add for hunters who want to sling a rifle without branding their forearm, and just as useful for range days where the can never really gets a chance to cool down. Simple, tough, and built by the same folks who made the suppressor it protects.
This cover is sized for Yankee Hill Machine's compact cans, specifically the Turbo K, Resonator K, and R9. YHM makes other lengths for their full-size suppressors, like the 5.5 inch for the Turbo and Turbo T2 line and the 6.875 inch for the Resonator models, so match the cover length to your can before ordering.
That's the main problem YHM designed around. Instead of relying on friction alone, the HTP45 uses locking straps that cinch the cover down tight, so it holds position instead of creeping forward or spinning like many bungee-style covers do after they break in. Once it's strapped down, it stays put through extended strings of fire.
The base layer that contacts the suppressor is flash rated to 3000 degrees Fahrenheit and the middle layer is rated to 1800 degrees, with fire-resistant thread holding it all together. That's plenty for normal range sessions and hunting use. Just know that sustained high-volume fire, especially on short-barreled 5.56 rifles, can eventually push heat through to the Cordura shell, so give the can breaks during heavy mag dumps.
Two big things. First, it cuts down the heat mirage that rises off a hot can and blurs your sight picture, which matters a lot on magnified optics. Second, it protects you and your gear from a scorching suppressor when you sling the rifle, case it up, or brush against it moving between positions.
