The XS Sights R3D 2.0 is the second generation of one of the most popular front-sight-focused night sight sets around, and this version drops right onto your HK. It pairs a high-contrast orange front with a blacked-out serrated rear, giving you a clean notch-and-post picture that keeps your eye where it belongs: on the front sight and the target downrange.
Up front you get a 0.145-inch blade wrapped in an orange Ember Glow Dot that surrounds a Swiss-made tritium vial. The photoluminescent ring soaks up ambient light and glows on its own in low light, while the tritium keeps working in total darkness. XS builds the front tritium lamp brighter than the two rear lamps on purpose, so your eye naturally locks onto the front and you don't confuse it with the rear dots when things get dim. The 0.170-inch rear notch leaves plenty of daylight on either side of the post for faster alignment, and the serrated rear face cuts glare in bright conditions.
Orange is the standout choice for high-contrast visibility in bright daylight while still holding its own after dark, which makes it a favorite for folks who want the front sight to jump out at the range or in the backyard. The whole set is CNC machined from solid steel bar stock, so it shrugs off drops, hard racks off a belt or barricade, and years of everyday carry. The BlackNitride finish adds serious corrosion resistance over older black oxide coatings and keeps things looking sharp.
This standard-height set is the versatile HK option, fitting the P30, P30 45, P30 45C, and the VP9 family. Second-gen dovetail work means installation takes noticeably less force than the original R3D, and you can press them in with a sight pusher or set them with a punch and hammer if you're comfortable doing it yourself. The rear also carries a ledge you can hook on a belt or holster for one-handed slide manipulations when you only have one hand to work with.
Yes. This standard-height set is the versatile HK option and fits the P30, P30 45, P30 45C, and the VP9 series. If you have a VP9 with a suppressor or optic setup, XS makes a separate suppressor-height version for that build.
Both use the same tritium and photoluminescent Ember Glow Dot design. Orange gives you the highest contrast in bright daylight while still glowing in low light, whereas green tends to have the brightest glow intensity after dark. It comes down to whether you want maximum daytime pop or the strongest low-light glow.
You can. The second-generation dovetail is engineered to press in with about half the force of the original R3D, so a sight pusher tool makes it straightforward. If you prefer, they can also be set with a punch and hammer, though a pusher gives you the cleanest, most repeatable results.
The Swiss-made tritium vials are warranted to glow for 12 years. Tritium naturally dims over its lifespan, which is normal for any self-luminous sight, but you get more than a decade of dependable low-light performance out of the set.
