The XS Sights R3D 2.0 is the second-generation take on one of the most trusted defensive iron sight setups out there, and it's built specifically for optic-ready and suppressor-equipped Smith & Wesson M&P pistols. This set fits the M&P, M2.0, Shield, Shield Plus, and Shield OR models, giving you a taller sight profile that lets you co-witness through a mounted red dot or clear the front of a suppressor. The star of the show is that orange front sight, which pairs a Swiss-made tritium vial with XS's photoluminescent Glow Dot so your eye locks onto the front post whether you're in bright sun or a dark hallway.
What you're getting over the original R3D is a smarter, cleaner sight picture. The rear features bigger, brighter tritium lamps than the first generation, each surrounded by a black PVC ring that sharpens the edge of the lamp and keeps you from confusing the front dot with the rears in low light. The rear face is serrated and blacked-out to cut glare, and the 0.170-inch wide notch leaves plenty of daylight on either side of the front post for fast, natural alignment when the lighting isn't on your side.
These are CNC machined from solid steel bar stock in XS's own shop in Fort Worth, then finished in BlackNitride, which holds up noticeably better against sweat, humidity, and holster wear than a standard black oxide coating. That toughness matters on a carry gun that lives against your body all day. There's also a squared ledge on the rear sight, handy for one-handed slide manipulation against a belt or boot heel if you ever need it.
Installation got a real overhaul on the 2.0 line, and XS reworked the geometry so the sights seat with about half the force the old versions required. You can drive them in with a sight pusher or a hammer and brass punch, and XS publishes written instructions plus install videos if you'd rather see it done first. Once they're set, they stay put through years of range trips and daily carry.

Yes, that's the whole point of the suppressor height. On the full-size optic-ready guns they're built to lower-third or absolute co-witness with common micro red dots, letting you see your irons through the optic window as a backup. Co-witness height depends on your specific optic and mounting setup, so check your dot's window height.
This version has an orange photoluminescent Glow Dot outline around the front tritium vial. The orange stands out sharp in daylight and the vial glows green in the dark. All three lamps use green tritium for the low-light picture.
XS redesigned the 2.0 line to seat with roughly half the force of the original R3D, so they go in easier than most steel night sights. You can install them with a sight pusher or a hammer and brass punch, and XS offers written instructions and install videos. If you're not comfortable working on your slide, a gunsmith can knock it out quickly.
