If you've ever shot an XDM, you know the factory trigger does its job, but it's far from perfect. That long pre-travel, the springy take-up before the sear breaks, and the heavy weight can all work against accurate shooting. The Powder River Precision drop-in kit fixes all of this with a simple swap of components.
What makes this kit different is the improved striker safety lever that removes much of that annoying pre-travel. Instead of wrestling through a long takeup before the trigger starts to do its thing, you get a much shorter distance to the break. The polymer trigger itself is lightweight, which helps speed up reset. There's also an integral over-travel stop built right into the back of the trigger, eliminating the mushy feeling at the end of the stroke without stressing the trigger bar.
This isn't a one-size-fits-all kit. You get both competition springs (marked with blue ink) and standard reduced-weight springs. The competition set can bring your pull down to around 2.5-3 lbs, while the standard springs give you a more conservative 3.5-4.5 lbs. You also get dedicated springs for the striker assembly and sear, so the whole system works in harmony. Most people find somewhere in the middle—maybe the standard trigger spring with the heavier striker spring—gives them exactly what they want.
Unlike some aftermarket parts, this is a genuine drop-in. There's no fitting, no filing, and no permanent modifications. You're simply replacing trigger components that are worn into the gun. Installation requires disassembling the fire control group, which isn't trivial if you've never done it, but it's straightforward component swaps. The kit is designed to be a Springfield Armory OEM part available on factory XDM pistols, so reliability and compatibility are built in. After installation, you get a noticeably shorter overall trigger pull length with that crisp break and quick reset that makes the XDM shine.
The kit is drop-in compatible with no fitting or modifications required, but installation does involve disassembling the fire control group, which is a more advanced procedure. If you've never done this work, having a qualified gunsmith handle the installation is recommended. Most people find the standard trigger spring with the heavier striker spring gives a nice middle ground around 4-4.5 lbs. The competition springs (marked blue) are lighter and suit shooters who want a match-grade trigger. Start with the standard springs to get familiar with the kit, then experiment if you want to go lighter.
This kit fits all XDM pistols chambered in 9mm and .40 S&W. It does not fit the original XD models, XD Mod.2, or XDM Elite series, which require different kits. Check the model of your pistol carefully before ordering.
