The Dead Air Wolverine Blast Shroud takes all of that noise, flash, and concussion and sends it downrange where it belongs. It won't quiet the gun down like a suppressor, but the difference in how the blast feels behind the rifle is significant, and the folks in the next lane will appreciate it too.
This is the direct-thread version of Dead Air's blast shroud lineup, model DA471, and it comes ready for AK-pattern rifles. The kit includes the WV200 14mm thread insert along with the WV101 collar and WV109 tool, so it goes straight onto the muzzle threads found on most stamped AK builds, WASR-10s, and parts-kit rifles. Because the whole system is HUB compatible, the components play nicely with other Dead Air accessories and suppressors, giving you room to reconfigure things down the road instead of buying a whole new setup for each host.
Dead Air machines the shroud from 4140 heat-treated alloy steel with 17-4 stainless in the adapter hardware, all wearing a black nitride finish that shrugs off heat and carbon. The DA471 runs 4.10 inches long, weighs 12.6 ounces, and carries a 7.62/.30 caliber through bore, so it handles 7.62×39 hosts without a second thought.
There are a couple of side benefits worth mentioning. The linear comp effect helps keep the muzzle flat, so your sights stay on target and follow-up shots come faster. On really short barrels, the shroud also extends the muzzle out past your support hand, which adds a welcome margin of safety when you're running a compact setup hard. If you shoot an AK pistol or SBR regularly and a suppressor isn't in the cards right now, this kit makes every range trip noticeably more pleasant.
No, and it isn't meant to. A blast shroud redirects the concussion, pressure, and flash forward of the muzzle instead of reducing overall sound. The gun is still loud downrange, but the experience behind the rifle and beside it is far more comfortable. You'll still want ear protection.
The WV200 covers the 14mm muzzle thread pattern found on most stamped AK-pattern rifles, including WASR-10s and the majority of US-built and parts-kit guns. If your rifle uses a different Combloc thread like 24×1.5 or 26×1.5, Dead Air offers other Wolverine inserts that swap into the same shroud.
Yes, that's one of the best parts of the design. The kit is built around the common HUB 1 3/8-24 thread pattern, so the components interchange with other Dead Air accessories and HUB-compatible suppressors. That modularity means you can reconfigure the system for different hosts instead of starting from scratch.
It does. The shroud works like a linear compensator, keeping the muzzle flat so you hold your sight picture through recoil and get back on target faster. On short-barreled guns it also pushes the blast farther from your support hand, which is a nice bonus on compact builds.
