The 450 Bushmaster hits hard, and it deserves a bolt carrier group that can keep up with the heat and fouling that comes with a big-bore AR. WMD Guns builds this NIB-X BCG with a 9310 steel bolt and an 8620 steel carrier, both treated to their proprietary NiB-X nickel boron coating. It drops straight into a compatible AR upper set up for 450 Bushmaster and takes over the whole cycle of feeding, firing, extracting, ejecting, and cocking the hammer.
The real story here is the coating. NiB-X nickel boron comes in around Rc72 on the hardness scale, which puts it above finishes like nitride, Melonite, and hard chrome for wear resistance. It is also extremely slick, with a very low coefficient of friction, so the carrier glides through the cycle and needs a lot less lube than a standard phosphate BCG. WMD backs the coating with a lifetime guarantee against chipping, spalling, and flaking, and they have run these designs through government protocol endurance testing well past the 30,000 round mark without the coating wearing off.
Every component is engineered to work with the coating rather than have it added as an afterthought. The bolt is shot peened and magnetic particle inspected, the carrier is heat treated and case hardened, and the gas key is staked with grade 8 fasteners and sealed to stay put under recoil. The firing pin, extractor, and cam pin all get the same attention, so you are looking at a complete drop-in group ready to run.
That slick, self-lubricating surface pays off most in the setups that generate the most gunk. Suppressed rifles and shorter barrels build carbon fast, and this bolt group wipes clean with a rag instead of a scrub brush. For a hunting or brush gun chambered in 450 Bushmaster, that means more time behind the trigger and a lot less time scraping fouling out of your action.
Yes. This is built to AR-15/M16 pattern dimensions and drops into a compatible upper set up for 450 Bushmaster. It is designed for direct impingement rifles, so as long as your barrel and upper are chambered and set up for the cartridge, it is ready to run.
It does. The NiB-X surface is very slick and hard, so carbon does not bond to it the way it does to a phosphate finish. In most cases you can wipe the carbon away with a rag instead of scrubbing, which is a big help on suppressed or short-barrel builds that foul quickly.
It is not required, but WMD does recommend pairing a nickel boron hammer with their nickel boron BCG for the smoothest operation. A standard hammer will still function fine. Matching finishes just keeps the contact points running slick and consistent.
A lot less than a standard BCG. The coating is self-lubricating with a very low coefficient of friction, so it cycles smoothly with minimal oil. That is a real advantage in dusty or harsh conditions where too much lube can attract grit.
