The WMD Guns 9mm 5.5" Nitromet Barrel is about as short as pistol-caliber AR barrels get, and it's built to take a beating. WMD starts with 4150 chrome moly vanadium steel, button rifles it with a 1:10 twist for reliable stabilization across common 9mm bullet weights, then runs the whole thing through their Nitromet salt bath nitride process. That treatment hardens the bore and the outside of the barrel at once, which is where the durability comes from.
Salt bath nitriding, sometimes called nitrocarburizing, diffuses nitrogen into the surface of the steel rather than layering a coating on top of it. The result is a very hard, wear-resistant surface that helps the barrel hold its dimensions over a long round count. WMD's own take on the finish is that it delivers bore life well beyond traditional chrome lining without hurting accuracy, and that tracks with what precision folks have found with nitrided barrels in general. As a bonus, the treatment leaves a slick surface that wipes clean easily at the range.
At 5.5 inches this barrel is aimed squarely at compact 9mm builds running a blowback, direct-blowback style system with no gas port to worry about. The muzzle comes threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for 9mm, so your existing muzzle devices and suppressor adapters should thread right on. The exterior finish is black to match the rest of a blacked-out setup.
