Description
After a case neck gets reloaded and fired enough times, brass starts to flow and build up on the inside of the neck. That extra material can bump your chamber pressures and throw off your consistency at the target. The L.E. Wilson 7mm Inside Neck Reamer is built to deal with exactly that, shaving the excess from the inside of .284 caliber necks so there's proper clearance between the loaded case and the chamber. It's made from hardened ground steel with a finish diameter of .2863" to .2868", and like everything from L.E. Wilson, it's made right here in the U.S.A. by a family-owned shop that's been at this since 1927.
How the 7mm Inside Neck Reamer Works
This reamer is designed to run in the Wilson Case Trimmer, using the trimmer as a jig so the reamer stays aligned with the case mouth and gets solid support through the cut. You pull the trimmer cutter out and drop the reamer in its place, then bump your case into the holder and ream away. The bearing portion is purposely ground a touch undersize to allow a slight universal-joint effect, which lets the cutting end find the center of the neck on its own. Worth knowing up front: it's meant for cases as they come out of the chamber after being fired with heavier loads that fully expand the brass, not for work-hardened or already-resized cases.
Who Reaches for a 7mm Neck Reamer
This one lands with handloaders chasing tight, repeatable neck tension, folks dealing with multi-fired brass that's started building a doughnut down near the neck-shoulder junction, and anyone forming wildcat cases from a parent cartridge. It's not a neck-wall uniformer and it won't correct necks that are thicker on one side than the other, but for resetting worn 7mm brass back toward factory spec and keeping clearance honest, it earns its spot on the bench.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need the Wilson Case Trimmer to use the 7mm Inside Neck Reamer?
Yes. The reamer is designed to run in the Wilson Case Trimmer, which acts as a jig to keep the reamer aligned with the case mouth and provide support during the cut. You remove the trimmer cutter and install the reamer in its place. It's not a standalone handheld tool.
When should I ream the inside of my 7mm case necks?
Reach for it on cases that have been reloaded and fired several times and have excess brass built up inside the neck. It's meant to be used on cases straight out of the chamber that were fired with heavier loads that fully expanded the brass, and it will reset those necks back toward factory wall thickness. It's not for work-hardened cases that have been repeatedly resized.
Will this 7mm reamer fix necks that are thicker on one side?
No. These are not line reamers and aren't designed to correct necks that are thicker on one side than the other. The reamer is centered and guided by the inside of the case neck, so it removes excess material and assures minimum clearance rather than truing up uneven wall thickness. For that job you'd want to turn the outside of the necks instead.
Can I use the 7mm Inside Neck Reamer for forming wildcat cartridges?
Yes, forming wildcats from a parent case is one of its common uses. When you neck down brass to make a 7mm wildcat, the necks can end up too thick, and this reamer removes that excess so the loaded round has proper chamber clearance. Just make sure the brass is in the right condition before reaming.
