If you love your 1911 but hate the pinch and hammer bite that comes from a stock grip safety, this is the upgrade that fixes it without major surgery on your pistol. Wilson Combat's drop-in beavertail grip safety lets you run a high-ride beavertail on a Colt-style frame without cutting or refinishing the receiver, which is normally what an extended beavertail install requires. You get a higher, more comfortable hand position, better recoil control, and an end to that web-of-the-hand bite that plagues a lot of GI-style guns.
This is the 429BC, which is the Commander and Officer-sized version. It's machined for Colt-style frames and is a great match for the Colt Commander, Colt Officer's Model, Colt Enhanced Government, and Colt Enhanced Gold Cup, along with plenty of other Commander-pattern 1911s. It's built to work with a Commander-style hammer or a bobbed spur hammer, so make sure your hammer plays nice with a beavertail before you start. The part is finished in a classic blued steel that looks right at home on a traditional 1911 and is set up for right-hand use.
Now, a little real-world honesty. Wilson calls this a drop-in part, and on a lot of guns it really does go in with just a little work, but "drop-in" in 1911 world usually means less fitting, not zero fitting. Because frame tolerances vary so much from one manufacturer and era to the next, you'll often need to file the trigger engagement area a bit so the safety functions correctly and resets cleanly. Folks fitting it to older or import frames sometimes spend more time on it, so plan accordingly.
The nice part is that nothing here is permanent. If you ever want to go back to bone-stock, you just reinstall your factory grip safety. Wilson recommends having small parts fitted by a qualified gunsmith, and that's solid advice if you're not comfortable with a file and a few function checks. Do it right and you'd never guess it didn't come on the gun from the factory.
