There is a reason the NULA Model 20 has been racking up rifle-of-the-year honors since it launched. Wilson Combat took Melvin Forbes' legendary New Ultra Light Arms design, the rifle that basically invented the ultralight hunting category, and put modern manufacturing behind it. The result is a .243 Winchester that weighs right around 5 pounds 4 ounces before glass, carries all day without complaint, and still comes with a sub-1 MOA accuracy guarantee using specified factory ammo. That combination of featherweight and genuine precision is rare, and it is the whole point of this rifle.
The 20 inch barrel is button rifled 416R stainless, honed and double stress relieved, with a 1-in-9 twist that handles the full spread of .243 bullet weights from light varmint loads up to heavier deer bullets. The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24 and ships with a thread protector, so adding a suppressor or brake is a five minute job. The receiver is fully machined and EDM cut from 4140 bar stock, and the trigger is a Timney Elite Hunter breaking between 2.75 and 3.25 pounds. Feeding comes from an internal magazine with a hinged aluminum floorplate holding 4+1, and the safety locks the bolt closed so nothing snags open while you are pushing through brush.
The Canyon Rogue carbon fiber stock from AG Composites keeps weight down while stiffening the whole platform, and it wears a 1 inch Pachmayr Decelerator pad that takes the edge off the already mild .243 recoil. Nitride coated sling studs and a 13.5 inch length of pull come standard. No sights are included, so plan on mounting a scope, which is how this rifle was meant to be run anyway.
Mild recoil, real accuracy, and a weight you forget about by mid-morning make this an easy rifle to recommend for whitetail, antelope, and coyotes alike. For a mountain hunt or a long hike to the back stand, the NULA 20 earns its keep every step of the way.
Wilson Combat backs every NULA rifle with a sub-1 inch MOA guarantee when using specified factory-loaded ammunition. That level of precision from a rifle this light is what earned the Model 20 recognition from Field & Stream and Guns & Ammo. The 416R stainless barrel and full-length stock bedding do a lot of the heavy lifting here.
Yes. The muzzle comes threaded in the common 5/8×24 pattern and ships with a thread protector installed. That makes it straightforward to add a suppressor or muzzle brake, and the bolt-action platform pairs really well with a can on a .243.
No, it feeds from an internal magazine with a hinged aluminum floorplate, holding 4 rounds plus one in the chamber. It is a classic hunting rifle setup that keeps the bottom of the gun slim and snag-free. Unloading is quick since the floorplate drops the rounds out without cycling them through the action.
It ships without sights, so you will want to plan on mounting an optic. The receiver is drilled and tapped with 8-40 Torx scope base screws, which are beefier than the 6-48 screws found on many rifles. Given the accuracy this rifle is capable of, a quality 3-9x or 3-12x hunting scope is a natural match.
