The bolt is precision machined from aerospace-grade 9310 tool steel, shot peened for extra strength, then MPI inspected and randomly batch high-pressure tested for peace of mind. The 8620 steel carrier is properly heat treated and machined with forward assist cuts and a Mil-Spec gas key that's chrome lined and staked with Grade 8 fasteners during final inspection. That staking matters. A gas key that loosens up is one of the most common reasons an AR starts short-stroking, and Wilson does it right so it stays put.
The whole assembly wears a complete black nitride coating, which is more than just a good looking matte black. It's a hard, low-friction surface treatment that cuts down on how much lube and cleaning your BCG needs, and it won't peel, flake, or chip the way some coatings do over time. Carbon tends to wipe right off, which anyone who's spent an evening scrubbing a phosphate bolt will appreciate.
