It's a 5" match-grade barrel chambered in .45 ACP, machined from 416R stainless steel forgings and heat-treated to Rockwell C 40 so it holds up round after round. The whole point of this barrel is giving you near-custom accuracy without dropping your pistol off at a master gunsmith and waiting half a year to get it back.
What makes a Wilson barrel shoot the way it does comes down to how it's built. Critical tolerances are held under half a thousandth of an inch, the chamber is polished glass-smooth, and the bore runs perfectly concentric with it. In Wilson's own test fixtures these barrels routinely print half-inch groups at 25 yards, and shooters out in the real world consistently report a noticeable jump in accuracy over their factory barrels. The 1:16" twist handles standard jacketed and lead .45 ACP loads just fine.
Despite the "drop-in" name, it's worth setting honest expectations. The lock-up areas are cut for a good fit in most Colt and Springfield Armory pistols, and plenty of folks running everything from Rock Island to Tisas 1911s have reported it dropping in with only minor work, usually a few file passes on the hood and a little fitting on the bushing. The included barrel bushing is intentionally left oversized and is really meant to be hand-fit to your specific slide. Take your time, go slow with hand tools, and never rush it with power tools.
