Weatherby built the Mark V Carbon Compact for people the standard rifle rack tends to ignore. The length of pull comes in at 13 inches instead of the usual 13.625, the forearm is slimmer, the grip is trimmed down with a slight palm swell, and the comb sits a bit higher to line your eye up behind a scope without craning. If a full size Mark V has always felt like a bit of a reach, this one fixes that without giving up anything the platform is known for.
The 22 inch BSF carbon fiber barrel starts as a 416R stainless match blank that gets turned down and sleeved in carbon fiber under tension. Most of that carbon never touches the steel, which leaves air gaps that shed heat quickly and keep the bore behaving consistently as you send longer strings downrange. Out front, the 5/8×24 threaded muzzle wears Weatherby's Accubrake DST, a directional self-timing brake that takes the already mild push of the 22 Creedmoor down to nearly nothing. Pull the brake and a suppressor threads right on.
The 22 Creedmoor is one of the flattest shooting factory 22 caliber centerfires you can buy, a genuine favorite for coyotes, prairie dogs at silly distances, and steel well past where most cartridges get lazy. Behind it sits the lighter 6-lug Mark V Standard Action with its famously short 54 degree bolt throw, feeding from a 3+1 internal magazine with a hinged floorplate. Weatherby backs the whole package with its sub-MOA guarantee of a three shot group under an inch at 100 yards with factory or premium ammo.
The hand-laid Monte Carlo fiberglass stock is painted in Sheridan, Wyoming, finished in black with brown, green, and white sponge accents. The receiver and trigger guard wear OD Green Cerakote while the bolt and knob get Graphite Black, a combination that looks sharp and shrugs off weather season after season.
Yes. The muzzle is threaded in the common 5/8×24 pattern, so once you remove the included Accubrake DST, most suppressors in that thread size will spin right on. The 22 inch barrel keeps overall length reasonable even with a can attached.
The Carbon Compact uses a 13 inch length of pull instead of Weatherby's standard 13.625 inches, along with a slimmer forearm and grip. That makes it a great fit for smaller framed hunters, younger shooters graduating to a serious rifle, or anyone who mounts a rifle better with a shorter stock, especially when wearing heavy hunting layers.
It does. Weatherby guarantees every Mark V will print a 3-shot group of .99 inch or less at 100 yards from a cold barrel using Weatherby factory or premium ammunition, valid for two years from the verified purchase date for the original owner. The tensioned BSF carbon barrel does a lot of the heavy lifting to make that possible.
The 22 Creedmoor is essentially a 6.5 Creedmoor case necked down to .224, pushing heavy-for-caliber bullets at impressive speeds with very little recoil. It has become a favorite for coyotes, long range varmint work, and steel targets way out there. With appropriate bullets it also handles deer-sized game at reasonable distances.
