Weatherby took their legendary Mark V action, trimmed every ounce they could find, and chambered it in .300 PRC, a cartridge built from the ground up for long, heavy .30 caliber bullets that hold their energy way out there. The result is a 6.2 pound rifle that hits like a much heavier gun without punishing you on the hike in or at the bench.
The weight savings start with the Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock, which comes in around 19 ounces and ranks among the lightest production stocks you can buy. It's not just light, either. The flat-bottomed forend sits steady over a pack, the ambidextrous palm swell fills the hand nicely, and the carbon fiber bedding keeps things consistent shot to shot. Up front you get a fluted #2 MOD contour barrel finished in Patriot Brown Cerakote, threaded 1/2-28 and capped with Weatherby's Accubrake ST. That brake, paired with the 3D HEX recoil pad, takes the sting out of a magnum-class cartridge in a rifle this light. It's a noticeable difference, especially during load development when you're putting a lot of rounds downrange.
The Mark V action has been around for decades for good reason. The nine-lug bolt gives it the strength to handle high-pressure magnum cartridges, and the short 54 degree bolt throw means fast cycling and plenty of clearance under a low-mounted scope. This one feeds from a 3+1 internal magazine with a hinged floorplate, and the crisp TriggerTech trigger makes it easy to get the most out of the accuracy potential. Speaking of which, Weatherby backs this rifle with their sub-MOA guarantee: a three-shot group under an inch at 100 yards with factory or premium ammo. The receiver comes drilled and tapped with no sights, so pick a quality scope, spend an afternoon getting it dialed, and this rifle will be ready for elk timber, open sage country, or anywhere else the season takes you.
The barrel itself is 26 inches, and the factory-installed Accubrake ST adds roughly two more, which is where the 28 inch figure comes from. The longer tube helps the .300 PRC reach the velocities it was designed for, and the 1/2-28 threading gives you options if you ever want to swap the brake for something else.
Lighter rifles in magnum-class chamberings will always have some kick, but this one is set up well to manage it. The Accubrake ST cuts a big chunk of the felt recoil and the 3D HEX recoil pad soaks up a lot of what's left. Most people find it very shootable, though like any braked magnum, ear protection is a must even in the field.
No, it ships without sights. The receiver is drilled and tapped, so you'll just need bases or a rail plus rings for your optic. Given the long-range capability of the .300 PRC, it makes sense to pair it with a quality scope that can take advantage of what the cartridge offers.
Weatherby guarantees a three-shot group of .99 inches or less at 100 yards from a cold barrel when using Weatherby factory or premium ammunition, valid for two years for the original purchaser.
