The 25 caliber crowd has been waiting a long time for a cartridge like the 25 WBY RPM. Weatherby built it on the same rebated-rim concept as the 6.5 and 338 RPM, then paired it with a fast 1:7.5 twist so it can run the long, sleek, heavy-for-caliber bullets that older quarter bores were never built to stabilize. Factory loads push a 133 grain Berger right around 3,000 fps, with lighter bullets stepping up well past 3,300. That means flat trajectories, real downrange energy, and recoil that stays polite. Dropped into the Mark V Backcountry 2.0, it makes a whole lot of sense as a do-it-all deer, antelope, and mountain rifle.
The Backcountry 2.0 is Weatherby's answer for hunters who count ounces. The Peak 44 Blacktooth carbon fiber stock is one of the lightest production stocks going, finished here in black with brown accents to match the Patriot Brown Cerakote on the barreled action. The 24 inch fluted steel barrel wears a #1 MOD contour to trim weight, and the threaded muzzle comes fitted with Weatherby's Accubrake ST, which uses symmetrical porting to knock the kick down to nearly nothing. Behind it all sits the 3DHEX recoil pad, a 3D printed lattice design that collapses progressively under recoil to soften what little push is left.
The RPM cartridges were designed specifically around the six-lug Mark V action, so you get magnum-class performance from a receiver that is shorter, lighter, and slicker than a traditional magnum platform. The 54 degree bolt lift clears low-mounted scopes and speeds up follow-up shots, the receiver comes drilled and tapped for bases, and a crisp TriggerTech trigger handles the fire control. Feeding runs through a hinged floorplate with 4+1 capacity, and like every Mark V, it carries Weatherby's sub-MOA accuracy guarantee with qualifying factory ammo. For a lightweight rig chambered in one of the most interesting new cartridges in years, this one is tough to argue with.
The 25 WBY RPM was built around a fast 1:7.5 twist barrel, so it stabilizes everything from light 100 grain bullets up to long, high-BC projectiles in the 131 to 133 grain range. That heavy end is where this cartridge really separates itself from older quarter bores like the 25-06 and 257 Roberts, which typically run slower twist rates. Factory loads send a 133 grain Berger near 3,000 fps from a 24 inch barrel.
Yes. The Accubrake ST threads onto the muzzle, so you can remove it and run a thread protector or a suppressor if you prefer. Keep in mind the brake adds about 2 inches, so the barrel measures 26 inches overall with it installed. The brake does a great job taming recoil in such a light rifle, so many owners just leave it on.
