The PDP has been one of the best striker-fired pistols on the market for a while now, and the PRO-X PMM takes that platform and cranks it up a notch. Walther teamed up with Parker Mountain Machine to integrate a purpose-built compensator directly into the full-length dust cover, so this isn't an afterthought add-on that disrupts the gun's balance. The comp works with the 4.6" threaded barrel to vent gases upward and keep muzzle rise in check, and the result is a pistol that stays noticeably flatter between shots than a standard full-size will. Combined with the steel slide and the weight of the full-size frame, follow-up shots feel controlled without the shooter having to fight the gun back onto target.
Walther's Dynamic Performance Trigger is one of the better production triggers you'll find on any striker-fired pistol right now. It's flat-faced for consistent finger placement, the break is clean, and the reset is short enough to run it fast without thinking about it. At around 4.5 lbs, it's light enough to be crisp without being unsafe. If you've shot a standard PDP and liked that trigger, the DPT in the PRO-X is a genuine step up.
The ergonomics carry over from the rest of the PDP family, which is a good thing. The grip texture is aggressive enough to hold on to in wet conditions but not uncomfortable for extended sessions. Walther's grip geometry tends to point naturally for most hand sizes, and the full-size frame gives you a complete firing grip without having to work for it. The aluminum magwell is flared and does double duty: it speeds up reloads during drills and also gives the pinky finger a solid shelf that contributes to recoil control.
The optics-ready slide uses Walther's proprietary footprint with a plate system, so mounting a red dot requires swapping to the right plate rather than any machining. Adjustable sights are already installed and usable on day one. The package also ships with three 20-round magazines with aluminum base pads, which is a genuinely strong inclusion. Most competitors charge extra to get to that round count or that many mags. At 27.4 oz unloaded and 8.5" overall, this is a full-size gun that knows what it is: a range performer, competition-ready platform, or duty pistol for someone who wants every factory advantage they can get.
The PMM compensator threads onto the 4.6" threaded barrel and is integrated into the full-length dust cover design, so it can be removed since the barrel is threaded at 1/2×28. That said, the whole system is built to work together, and the dust cover frame is designed around the comp being in place, so most owners leave it as-is.
The slide uses Walther's proprietary optics plate system, not a universal MOS-style cut. You'll need to use the correct adapter plate for your specific red dot. No optic or plate is included in the box, so factor that in when planning your setup.
The PRO-X PMM adds the Parker Mountain Machine compensator, an aluminum magwell with flared base, aluminum magazine base pads, and the flat-faced Dynamic Performance Trigger that replaces the curved trigger found on standard PDP models. The overall length is longer due to the comp, but the core grip geometry and ergonomics are consistent with the rest of the PDP family. For range or competition use, the upgrades are meaningful.
Most standard PDP Full-Size holsters will not fit the PRO-X PMM properly because the integrated compensator and full-length dust cover change the profile of the gun. You'll want to look for holsters specifically designed for the PDP PRO-X or compensated PDP variants.
Compensated pistols can be sensitive to very light or underpowered ammunition, since they rely on sufficient gas pressure to function the comp effectively. Standard pressure 115gr and 124gr 9mm loads generally run well, and 147gr standard pressure loads are also a solid choice. Avoid very light subsonic or reduced-power target loads if you want the comp to do its job.
