The PDP Pro SD Compact is what happens when Walther takes their already well-regarded PDP platform and starts checking off the upgrade list before the gun ever reaches your hands. Threaded barrel, Dynamic Performance Trigger, aluminum magwell, reinforced optic cut with machined recoil lugs — it's all here from the factory. For anyone who's ever done the math on building out a standard PDP after the fact, the Pro SD makes a strong argument on its own.
The Dynamic Performance Trigger is the centerpiece. It swaps in a metal flat-face shoe, tightens up the take-up considerably, and delivers a crisp wall with a short, positive reset — all while staying in the duty-rated 5.6 lb pull range. It's the same trigger Walther sells as a standalone upgrade for close to $180, and it's stock here. The SuperTerrain serrations on the slide are aggressive and protruding, not just milled channels, so your support hand actually has something to bite into whether you're running gloves or not. The grip uses Walther's tetrahedron-patterned Performance Duty Texture, which sounds rough on paper but is designed to be non-abrasive against skin and clothing while still keeping the gun firmly planted during fast strings of fire.
The 4.6-inch barrel is threaded 1/2×28 and comes with a thread protector installed. Walther also includes a secondary recoil spring — the green one — specifically tuned for suppressed or compensated use, which is a thoughtful inclusion that a lot of manufacturers skip. The slide's optic cut features machined-in recoil lugs for added support under the added weight and back-pressure that comes with running a can. Three-dot white sights are adjustable at the rear and compatible with Glock-pattern aftermarket replacements, so you have plenty of options if you want to upgrade to suppressor-height irons later.
At 8.1 inches overall and just over 26 ounces with an empty magazine, this is a genuinely compact pistol despite the longer barrel. The compact grip frame uses the full-size slide, which gives the gun a slightly top-heavy feel that actually helps tame muzzle rise during rapid fire. The aluminum magwell is removable and requires the included aluminum-basepad magazines to seat properly — keep that in mind if you're planning to mix in standard PDP mags. The pistol also includes interchangeable backstraps in small, medium, and large, an ambidextrous slide stop, and a reversible magazine release, so left- and right-handed shooters are both covered from the start.
This version ships with three 10-round magazines, making it the right choice where higher-capacity options aren't workable.

The slide comes with a plate-based optic mounting system that is compatible with a wide range of popular red dot sights. The gun ships with one cover plate installed, and additional adapter plates for different optic footprints are available directly from Walther. If you plan to run suppressor-height irons alongside your optic for co-witness, that's also an option since the sight cut is compatible with Glock-pattern aftermarket sights.
The aluminum flared magwell that ships with the Pro SD requires magazines equipped with aluminum base pads — the included magazines come set up that way. Standard PDP compact magazines with polymer base pads will not seat correctly when the magwell is attached. The magwell is removable, so if you want to use standard-basepad magazines, you can take it off.
The Dynamic Performance Trigger uses a metal flat-face shoe and significantly reduces the amount of take-up before hitting the break, giving it a cleaner, more defined wall and a shorter, more tactile reset. Both triggers are tuned to approximately 5.6 lbs of pull to maintain a duty-appropriate feel. The DPT is sold separately by Walther as an aftermarket upgrade, so getting it factory-installed in the Pro SD is a meaningful value.
Walther's Performance Duty Texture uses a tetrahedron pattern that is designed to provide a secure purchase without being abrasive against skin or clothing — which is a real consideration if you're carrying all day. Most people find the texture strikes a solid balance between grip security and wearability. The pistol also includes three swappable backstraps in small, medium, and large so you can dial in the grip circumference for your hand size.
