The VKTR VK1 is VKTR Industries' flagship rifle, and the 13.7-inch pin-and-weld configuration is the sweet spot of the lineup for anyone who wants compact handling without sacrificing rifle classification. The FDE Cerakote finish ties the whole package together, and with the Magpul furniture wearing matching FDE hardware, it has a cohesive look that works just as well at the range as it does in the field.
At the heart of the VK1 is VKTR's patented short-stroke piston system, and this is where the rifle genuinely sets itself apart. The piston assembly uses a unique cup and spigot design that improves the gas seal and overall efficiency, and a staged gas bleed system with precisely positioned exhaust ports bleeds off excess energy near the end of the op rod's stroke. The practical result is a noticeably flatter, softer shooting rifle that keeps fouling out of the upper receiver. No adjustable gas block to fiddle with either. The self-regulating design runs suppressed or unsuppressed, and with light or heavy 5.56 loads, without any manual tuning.
The rest of the build is stacked with quality components. The 13.7-inch barrel is cold hammer forged with a QPQ nitrided finish and a 1:7 twist, thermally fit to the forged 7075-T6 upper receiver to eliminate heat-related point-of-impact shift. The bolt carrier is a one-piece precision machined unit with a patented enhanced cam path and a hard chrome finish. Up front you get a 12.5-inch M-LOK handguard with plenty of real estate for lights, lasers, or a vertical grip. The Radian Raptor charging handle, Hiperfire single-stage trigger at 4.5 lbs, and fully ambidextrous billet controls round out a lower that is genuinely better than most factory AR lowers on the market. VKTR recommends high-flow suppressor designs for best recoil mitigation, but the rifle will run with a wide variety of commercially available cans.
The 13.7-inch barrel on the VK1 is pinned and welded with the SOLGW NOX muzzle device to bring the overall barrel length to 16 inches, which classifies it as a rifle rather than a short-barreled rifle. This gives you the handling and weight advantages of a shorter barrel while keeping it in rifle configuration. The NOX muzzle device is also suppressor-compatible, making it an excellent host.
