This is Tula's zinc-coated steel case offering in .380 ACP—the kind of ammo you grab when you want to run multiple boxes through your pistol without worrying about cost. Each 95-grain full metal jacket round feeds reliably through most .380 platforms and shoots clean enough for casual range sessions.
The 95-grain FMJ projectile features a solid brass coating around a lead core, making it non-magnetic and suitable for ranges that restrict magnetic ammunition. The zinc-coated steel casing is the real standout here. Unlike bare steel cases that can wear on extractors, the smooth zinc coating provides easier cycling while still giving you that economical steel case advantage. These cases won't expand during firing like brass does, which does result in some extra residue, but the non-corrosive Berdan primer means you don't have to worry if you skip cleaning day.
With around 1017 fps and about 161 foot-pounds of energy, you're looking at standard .380 performance that's plenty for target shooting and training. Steel cases aren't reloadable, but that's the tradeoff for the value. If you put significant volume downrange on a regular basis and your pistol runs fine with steel, this is the kind of ammo that keeps practice affordable.
This round has a brass jacket with no steel in the bullet itself, so it won't be attracted to magnets and is typically allowed at indoor ranges. Always check your range's specific ammunition policy before showing up, as some ranges have their own restrictions on steel cases regardless of the bullet composition.
The zinc coating makes a real difference. It provides smooth feeding similar to brass while keeping the cost down since you're still on a steel case. You will get slightly more residue than brass since steel doesn't expand the same way, but it cycles reliably in most .380 pistols.
The zinc coating is the main advantage. Bare steel cases can be harder on extractors and feed less smoothly. Tula's zinc coating creates a much smoother surface that reduces wear and improves reliability. It's a step up from polymer-coated steel in terms of feeding consistency.
This is built for range work and training. For carry, most people go with premium hollow point defensive loads. The FMJ design won't expand, making it range-only ammo. That's where steel case shines—keeping practice costs down.
Most .380s run it fine. Some older or finicky models have reported occasional cycling issues, but it generally feeds reliably. Always test a few rounds at the range before committing to bulk. If you've had good luck with other Tula loads, this should work the same way.
It's not as critical as with corrosive surplus ammo since this uses a non-corrosive Berdan primer. That said, it shoots dirtier than brass due to the steel case not sealing as well, so a routine cleaning after a range session is still good practice for gun longevity.
