The Troy M7A1 PDW Stock Kit is one of the slickest ways to take a full-size AR-15 or M4 and squeeze it down into a genuinely compact package. Instead of relying on a standard carbine buffer tube, Troy engineered a shortened, proprietary bolt carrier group with an integrated buffer, weight, and pad. That clever bit of engineering is what lets the buffer tube shrink so much, trimming roughly three inches off your overall length compared to a traditional M4 stock when fully collapsed. The result is an AR that can get down close to two feet long while still running like an AR should.
Rather than telescoping into the buffer tube, this stock rides on two aluminum rails that run alongside the upper receiver. The rails are spaced wide enough to clear your controls, so you keep full access to the charging handle and fire controls even with the stock fully collapsed and even with gloves on. The release latch sits on the underside and works from either side. Tap it once to click through the six length-of-pull positions, or hold it down and slide the whole thing open or shut in one smooth motion.
Troy has a well-earned reputation for battle-ready gear, and the M7A1 lives up to it. The kit mixes aluminum, steel, and polymer, with a heavy-duty latch assembly that locks up solid with no slop in the rails. It's designed for direct-impingement guns and plays nicely with a range of standard AR chamberings including 5.56, .223 Rem, .300 Blackout, and 6.5 Grendel. It's not meant for the big-bore heavy hitters like .458 SOCOM or .50 Beowulf.
Installation swaps out your receiver end plate, and the stock itself holds the takedown pin spring in place. Built-in QD sling sockets sit in the butt plate on both sides, so you can run your sling however you like. Since the buffer system is self-contained in this design, the upper slides off the front rather than hinging open, which is worth knowing before you tear into a cleaning session.
It's built for direct-impingement AR-15, M4, and M16 lowers, and it runs well with standard chamberings like 5.56, .223 Rem, .300 Blackout, and 6.5 Grendel. It is not designed for piston guns or big-bore rounds like .458 SOCOM or .50 Beowulf. Yes, that's a big part of the design. The stock rides on twin aluminum rails spaced wide enough to keep your charging handle and fire controls accessible, even with gloves on and even when fully retracted. Do note the collapsed rails sit a little closer to the safety lever, so a little practice getting used to it doesn't hurt.
The kit is a complete package with the PDW stock, the buffer spring, and the full proprietary bolt carrier group and buffer system. Because it includes the BCG, you're getting more than just a stock, which is worth factoring in when you compare it to a bare stock swap. Built-in QD sling sockets on the butt plate round it out.
