The 3 inch chamber and gas-driven action cycle everything from light target loads to heavy waterfowl shells, so the same gun that knocks down clays in August is ready for the marsh come opening day.
The Pro upgrades are the kind you appreciate with cold, gloved hands. TriStar enlarged the bolt handle and bolt release, went with a big triangular safety behind the trigger guard, and opened up the magazine well so shells feed in without fumbling. Over-molded rubber grip panels on the stock and forend keep your hold locked in when everything is wet, and the manual E-Z load magazine cut-off is a handy touch for swapping shells quickly. Despite being gas operated, this gun stays trim and light, right around 6.8 pounds, so it carries like an inertia gun but shoots noticeably softer on the shoulder.
The 28 inch vent rib barrel is chrome lined for corrosion resistance and easy cleanup, topped with a matted sight plane and a fiber optic front sight that stands out in low morning light. It threads for Beretta/Benelli Mobil chokes, and TriStar includes three tubes (Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full) along with a choke case and wrench. A shot plug and stock shim kit are in the box too, so you can tune fit and stay set for migratory bird limits.
With 5+1 capacity, weather-shrugging finishes, and a five year warranty backing it up, the Viper G2 Pro covers ducks, geese, dove fields, and casual clays without asking much in return. It is a lot of shotgun for hunters who care more about birds in the bag than the name on the receiver.
The gas-operated action is designed to run everything from light 2 3/4 inch target loads up to heavy 3 inch waterfowl shells without adjustment. That flexibility is one of the main reasons folks pick a gas gun over an inertia gun. Like most semi autos, give it a proper cleaning and a couple boxes of shells to break in and it settles right into a rhythm.
The barrel is threaded for Beretta/Benelli Mobil style chokes, which is one of the most common patterns out there. Three tubes come in the box: Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full, plus a case and wrench. Aftermarket Mobil chokes for steel shot or turkey loads are easy to find if you want to expand your setup.
The Pro version adds oversized controls, including a bigger bolt handle, bolt release, and an enlarged triangular safety that is easier to work with gloves on. It also gets over-molded rubber grip sections on the stock and forend plus a widened magazine well for faster loading. The core gas system and 3 inch chamber carry over from the standard G2.
That is exactly what this configuration was built for. The FDE Cerakote metalwork and Terra Bayou camo stock shrug off wet weather, the fiber optic front sight shows up well at first light, and the gas system tames recoil on heavy loads. At around 6.8 pounds it also carries easily on long walks to the blind.
