The Cobra III Compact is the kind of gun a lot of us wish we had started on. TriStar took their smooth-cycling Cobra III pump, trimmed the stock down to a 13-inch length of pull, and paired it with a 24-inch barrel in .410 bore. The result is a shotgun that fits younger hunters and smaller-framed adults the way a full-size 12 gauge never will. At just 4.8 pounds, it is light enough for a kid to carry through a full morning in the squirrel woods, and the soft-shooting .410 keeps recoil mild enough that new wingshooters build good habits instead of a flinch.
The 3-inch chamber gives you room to run everything from light 2.5-inch target loads up to heavier 3-inch hunting shells. The barrel and chamber are chrome lined for easy cleanup and long service life, and the vent rib with a matted sight plane wears a fiber optic front sight that pops in low light. The barrel is threaded for Beretta/Benelli Mobil style chokes, and TriStar includes Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full tubes in a small hard case with a wrench. That is a genuinely useful spread, tight enough for a turkey blind with the Full tube, open enough for close flushes with the IC.
The walnut stock and matte black metal look sharp without being fussy about scratches, and the rubber recoil pad and sling swivel studs come standard. The extended forearm gives shorter arms plenty to grab onto, the crossbolt safety sits right where you expect it, and a removable shot plug is included for migratory bird seasons.
